What's with the physics? or is it just me

Post » Mon Apr 05, 2010 5:28 pm

I play Crysis 2 on extrem setting and i don't seem to have any of those praised features i have seen in the cryengine 3 tech demo.

Where are things like deformation and destructible objects. Has anyone managed to shoot down stuff to bits and pieces?

Smoke isn't volumetric or how you call it..it looks like 2D smoke. (driver related or game related?)

I couldn't even shoot down things made of wood.

Can someone help me on this stuff or give me an answer? Although most of the game feels great it feels like a step backwards.

My rig.:

Intel Core I7 3.2 GHZ O.C. @3.8 GHZ
24 GB Corsair Vengance 1600Mhz DDR 3 Ram (6x4GB) O.C. @2000 MHZ
2xNVIDIA GTX580 (although i'm using only 1 atm.)
Windows 7 64bit
12 custom Fans and 1 Water cooler.

looks to me the demos were more of a gimmick to get ppl to buy it.... or show of the power of cryengine 3 which it seems they did not use to its full potential. The game runs with DX9 so that might explain 2d looking smoke effects.

Sry im no pro at this stuff :P just trying to answer

You can chip away anything you see. Concrete barriers can be chipped along the top while the steel reinforced ones can't. You can destroy, tables benches etc, anything you'd expect in Crysis 1. Just don't expect your measly bullets to bring down buildings.

Only thing i see on concrete stuff are typical bullet hole textures and nothing more. I couldn't even shoot a tree. Didn't move even if a grenade explodes next to it.

Compare the cryengine tech demo with what we have and you'll clearly see where the difference is.

DX9 or DX11 has nothing to do with smoke effects. Crytek called physX mediocre but even physX has beautifull smoke and dust effects.

I just have the strong feeling we are only seeing only a tiny bit of the cryengine 3 power. Or is this really all that is to this engine. If yes then i have seen better stuff in other games.

I kind of miss being able to blow up trees and stuff. Remember the shacks from Crysis 1? Why can't I destroy the scaffolds in Crysis 2 for example, they can't be much sturdier than those shacks. Cutting down trees in the first one was pretty damn fun as well.

I didn't say it is done with physX but even physX has better smoke effects to offer than what we have here.

Even most games at present that don't even use physX but DX9-11 have better smoke and dust effects than Crysis 2. That just is one way to say "crysis 2 is screwed up very much"
