What would be the best Desktop for my needs?

Post » Wed Aug 15, 2012 10:24 pm

I'm new to current gen PC gaming, so I want to know what Desktop PC would be the best for my needs. Here's a few of the games I want to play on PC that aren't Skyrim(I already have it on PC and it runs well, but I want a desktop so I can have more freedom with the hardware than I do with a laptop):

The Wither 1 and 2
Risen 1 and 2

I'd like for the computer to have a price of at the $600 range or under. Preferably under. I might be getting one for Christmas, and the budget my parents have on this is about 500 bucks. I do want the desktop more for playing games at higher graphic settings. It has to have Windows 7. Please, don't list any Alienware products. Thanks for the help in advanced.

I don't know enough about everything involving the inside of a computer yet to find the build I want. I'm not allowed to build my own computer at the moment, so I can't build a computer. Please link to the computer.

I probably should have looked for the Tech thread... Sorry about that.

So, you want a prebuilt that comes with Windows, capable of playing modern relatively demanding games in high settings in 1080p and have a budget of $500?

I have a place you can find this computer: Candy Fairy Land.

The only way you're really going to get anything worth that price at such a low budget, assuming you need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, is by putting together your own. Even then, it still might not perform up to your standards, but you should be quite pleased with it if you're comparing it to, say consoles. Is there any reason in particular why you are forbidden from building a computer?

Is there a site that sells builds already built that aren't prebuilt? I don't know if that was phrased well, but I am curious. I'm assuming most sites like what I am curious about are probably scams, but still would like to be pointed in some direction. Even if I have to spend a day searching through what direction I am pointed. I'm aware what I am asking for is most likely not possible. I just felt it was worth asking.

Your friend and/or relative that happens to be a master at putting together a PC might do it for free, but no self respecting business would do that for free. :D

Sort of.

You could swap that video card for a 6670 in the configuration.

EDIT// and bump the PSU (power supply unit) up to a 500W PSU.

Thanks. I might have to ask the guy who got the old desktop that is now never used to play Zoo Tycoon 2 about this if I don't get any help here.

Ordering parts would be your best bet. See if this is at all possible before investing in a prebuilt.

I just need to say thank you. You are awesome for just linking to something that would be good for me! I sent the link to my dad. This looks like a really good computer!

I would again advise seeing if you know anyone who can build a computer for you, to see if ordering parts from newegg is an option. If not, then still, I would upgrade the GPU on the prebuilt I linked, seeing as it is rather lackluster. You'll need a stronger PSU to support it as well, so go with a 500W PSU. You can choose all of that in the configuration screen.

Also, change the case to something you like. The tower is what you're going to see every time you turn the computer on or look at it, so choose something you like.

My room has blue walls, so you pretty much chose the most perfect looking tower for a computer. My family is friends with someone who has a husband who builds computers. He's the guy who upgraded our now impossible to use desktop years ago when it was usable. If I end up getting parts instead, I'll have him help out if he can.

I will save for a better GPU. Is the configuration screen found by pressing F2? My laptop always says to press F2 to go to settings or something when it is on the Acer logo. This is only when I switch it on after it is off or restarting. I just want to know in advanced.
