What if Alduin wasnt the only one to be sent through time? What if the plot twist is that when you read the scroll to learn dragonrend from Alduins past - you created a duplicate of yourself in the elderscroll series's timeline? Your duplicate in the past lost his memories in the process and so his fate took another turn and he became the dragonpriest/dragonborn named Miraak. Miraaks son got a son who got a son, and so you were born. Your own great-grandfather. To avoid a time paradox, Hermaeus Mora imprisoned Miraak in his dimension until you were born - your own dad, to safeguard time itself. When you killed Alduin, you didnt absorb his soul because Miraak gave his soul willingly to Alduin in the past. Since your soul is a part of Alduin you couldnt absorb his essence because you cant absorb your own soul! When you face Miraak and remove the mask you find your own face! And when Hermaeus Mora pulls you both into his dimension of TIME, FATE and the UNKNOWN you must fight eachother. Since in the physical world - anyone of you killing the other would create a time paradox - you must absorb it in hermaeus's realm. Not only that. When Alduin disappeared - he disappeared to HM's realm aswell. You must kill Miraak first, THEN kill Alduin in Hermaeus's realm to restore balance by absorbing both their souls outside the physical realm and reclaim your essence. After you have done so you could have gone back to Tamriel. But you are now so powerful that Hermaeus wants your body as a VESSEL to enter Tamriel. You must fight Hermaeus and defeat him, but wait , ALDUIN IS THE SON OF AKATOSH. By absorbing his divine power, you are no longer restricted to absorbing dragons alone.
You can now absorb a Daedra or an Aedras soul! So the unforseen happens when you kill Hermaeus Mora, YOU BECOME HERMAEUS MORA BY ABSORBING HIM! Becomming Hermaeus mora lets you see the strands of time themselves. You throw Miraaks dead body back to Tamriel, not your own. Lydia mourns, not knowing you now are a sloshing tentacle monster (Which surely would have given your lovelife an interesting turn). But thus Miraak (You) is dead, the first and last dragonborn. As Hermaeus Mora is born (in the future) with the power to see the entirety of Tamriels timeline and is able to travel freely around in it. Thus the dragonborns life has ended, Hermaeus Mora is born - in a place out of time. And here Hermaeus creates the first prophecy of the dragonborn and his power, to ensure his own existence.
