What do you look for in an RPG?

What makes or breaks an RPG for you? How many routes do you want in a single mission? Alignment systems?
I'd like to hear thoughts since i am writing out a game idea and would like to know what is important to roleplayers and casuals alike.
I'm not trying to pander, I just want to see what other people think now that we've had some interesting titles in this field.
Any thing you think of feel free to post, and if done respectfully, feel free to debate.

The 1 and only debate rule: Don't get too heated up and into it, because I'm just gathering opinions not Right & Wrong in RPG's
