What do you think happened to the Dragonborn?

Post » Wed May 11, 2016 9:57 pm

I was wondering, what do you think happened to the Dragonborn after the events of Skyrim?

We're pretty sure that the Nereverine went to Akavir to train with Vivec and The Hero of Kavatch may have turned into Sheogorrath, but so far, we know nothing of the fate of the Last Dragonborn. In my opinion, there are a few possibilities:

1:They live the rest of their life in peace after killing Alduin, possibly with the Greybeards

I don't think that the Dragonborn would do this. Based off of the fact that they jump at the chance to take action and save someone/something, I don't think that the Dragonborn would just settle down like that, but it's possible.

2: They are killed

Pretty self explanatory, The Dragonborn could be killed in battle. Again, I find this unlikely. Also, for Bethesda to say that the Dragonborn was killed seems like a pretty lazy answer to me.

3: They go adventuring elsewhere/move on to something else.

In my opinion, this is the most likely option. It's logical that they would want to keep adventuring, so I think they would be off somewhere exploring.

What do you think? Did the Dragonborn die after the events of Skyrim?

As a Dragonborn, technically, they have a claim to the Imperial throne. Do you think that will be explored in the future?

The Last Dragonborn is a Hero. Heroes don't get to lv happily ever after in TES. They fade from history when their task is done, always finding some way to drop out of sight. There will be rumours, of course. Likely the commoners will claim he traveled to Atmora, or never returned from the Black Books. But he (or she) will disappear under unclear circumstances.

IMO, Heroes aren't people. They are concepts. And when the Scrolls are done with the concept, it gets filed away for later use.

Vanilla dragons are far too weak to do that.

Dragonborn's fate is a bit more vague than the heros of the previous games. However since DB defeats Miraak, he/she essentially becomes Hermaeus Mora's new champion and will likely end up staying in Apocrypha like Miraak did. I'd guess that's the most likely canon fate.

But that's just my speculation.

The Last Dragonborn is your hero. So, you answer your own question.

they don't actually, divine right to rule went out the door when the pact was absolved and Martins took its place.. dragonborn no longer gives you any right to the ruby throne.. random Dragonborn #12 has about as much claim as random beggar #32

as to what happens to him? he will immediately fall out of any historical records the second their journey is over.. sure there may be rumors, but he will simply fall off the map as is customary

Well, the faction quest lines which tie the DB to the will of certain daedric princes are quite optional. The main questline of Dragonborn DLC is somewhat tied to the vanilla game questline. That makes it less optional lorewise. Thus in the end, if any daedric prince ends up owning DB's soul (which is no guarantee anyway), it's Hermaeus Mora.

Well, let's see.............

The champion of Cyrodiil faded away. Thankfully, as I found him to be boring and generic - cookie cutter, even.

The Nerevarine went to Akavir.

So where would the Dragonborn go?

His fate is entwined with that of the dragons. Also, he is associated inevitably with Talos, Akatosh and even Lorkhan/Shor.

Perhaps the best place for him to go is Atmora.

I'd rather not hear about his getting involved in the Great War or the Skyrim Civil War.

its tied directly into the vanilla mainquest, its meant as an extension to it, just like Morrowinds Tribunal

To note though, both Frya and Neloth both state in the post-game that Mora has no hold over the PC, and that its ultimately up to them whether or not to follow Mora.

So, the status quo is basically maintained.

Exactly. A direct extension. In this regard the events of Dragonborn DLC are more canon than Champion of Cyrodiil becoming the new Sheogorath.

But then again, this is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

LDBs fate will probably be told in vague contradictory rumours such as "I heard he flew to Atmora on a dragon." "I heard that a book ate him." Vague enough to allow us to make up our own final fate for him/her, but solid enough to know that they are out of the picture and won't be reappearing ever again both in game and in lore.

I think the most logical (in terms of canon) is either:

The Dragonborn, having fulfilling his destiny of vanquishing Alduin and ending the Dragon crisis, returns to Aetherius; as it is believed by many that he is an aspect of Akatosh.

Or;

As an extension of the story, according to the Dragonborn DLC, the Dragonborn unofficially ( or unwillingly) becomes Hermaus Mora's champion. It's easy to assume then that he is kept in Apocrypha.

I doubt it.. Aspect of Lorkhan maybe (he has several things in common with several of the confirmed Shezarrine's).. but Akatosh? yeah, i don't see it

To be Dragonborn is something bestowed by Akatosh. To me, it makes sense that if Alduin is the first born of Akatosh - and the world eater at that - then only Akatosh can destroy him. Hence why the Last Dragonborn is sent.

This is just my opinion of course.

How is being tied to the main quest a less optional option exactly?

How is the Champion of Cyrodiil being Sheogorath less canoncical than the events of the Dragonborn DLC?

There's no good ending for any player characters. He got stuck inside Apocrypha forever. That's my bet.
