What is your most loathed MMO Mechanic

Post » Wed Jul 24, 2013 10:54 pm

It's fairly simple, what part of MMO's is your #1 most hated reality, Preferably something you wouldn't want to see in ESO.

Alternatively, something MMO related, going into ESO, you think is unsavory.

I will start with... Complacency of Terminology. More of a... group think gamer... ahh... idiot sheep syndrome type affair.

So World of Warcraft started with item's that would Bind to a character ( not like a summoned weapon from oblivion... )... this meant when it was picked up it would only be usable by you.

This was called Bind's on Pickup, in the top corner of the weapon description. player's called it BoP for short.

The other, was Bind's on Equip. Trade-able between player's until equipped. called BoE by player's.

The last style that was implemented in an expansion, stated " Bind's to Account ".

Now to remain simple, as we are all [censored], it went BoP, BoE, and BoA... instead of BTA. Anyone who used the shorthand of BTA were asked the question " what is that? ", usually followed by an answer of " a schoolbook... have you seen one before? " or " It's correct English [ insert linked BTA item here ] click link idiot, read ".

While i found the entire affair pleasing in some ways, like some kind of socially deprived genius, it was bothersome. To think anyone had thought, at some time, Bind's on account, is proper English in any form... made me feel surrounded by sheep's / retards. While that is how i feel in New Zealand, i don't want that in a Game.

While on English... if you see my post's with incorrect spelling, it is most likely the subtle difference's between English and American English. Color, colour etc.

~TLDR: What do you hate about MMO's? I dislike WoW player's greatly.

Gathering ridiculously expensive or rare materials to craft armor then having it pretty much given to you the next patch. It ruins the story and point of exploring and also feels like a slap in the face after all the in game money and time i had spent doing the quests and or raiding to be able to get something so difficult

Escort quests. I hate them every fiber of my being.

Not a spelling thing but a grammar one: If you are any indication, New Zealand is the only English-speaking country in the world that consistently uses an apostrophe before the s when pluralizing words (the rest of us don't do that unless we're doing it wrong).

Daily quests that you are practically forced to do in order to get the highest-end gear in the game (LOTRO's Hytbold, anyone?) or using them as a filler for players to do while they work on releasing the next batch of content.

Another thing that bothers me is the amount of time you take grinding something, only to have practically all that time wasted in the next game update.

There are some exceptions... if i remember, not if it is after a vowel... also a noun has something to do with it. Then again, the teacher's in this country don't have exceptional... grades. My mates from Pennsylvania and has a Bachelor of Science. With that, she probably outranks 99% of our country... even though she says its fairly basic >.>

But at the end of the day, if you guys pull me up on anything, i know you are still intelligent enough to interpret what message i was getting across anyway. I just remember i [censored] it up in some way, and don't reply, cause i know you got it. Indirectly, you make me better at understanding American grammar...

Edit: I'm over talking about WoW

Yeah, no matter what country you're in, English has exceptions to all of its rules, and it makes the language a mess. I just had to poke at you a bit for what I see as a glaring error with punctuation. I don't normally call people on their spelling and grammar on the internet unless they bring it up first and they make mistakes, so I'll that drop now.

Where to start? Keyboard turn/mouse button move controls. Auto attack. Hotbars with cooldowns. Griefers. hardcoe theory crafters. Nameplates. SCT. Other assorted interface eyesores. Bound items. Grinding. Oh god, the grinding!

I love the variety of things to do and customize, the people to do them with and the communities that grow spontaneously and organically from the best ones.

Auction Houses

Bind on Pick up

Deleting of a object when you place it on the ground

Easy fast travel

No death pentalties

Rigid class structure

Themepark type questing with waypoints marked on the game map

No sandbox game play

Crafting that has no real meaning, as in items made are either useless or you can find better by doing quests or from drops. They should all be of the same quality.

Pointless PVP in battlegrounds or closed off maps where you teleport to and it has no real effect on the game world.

The random invites to guilds the first few minutes into the game from strangers.

So that sums up most of the MMO's released over the past 10 years, here is hoping TESO will have some redeeming features.

Losing anything for any reason, when you die. I hate it and refuse to play any game that has such a mechanic.
