Whats steam and how will I be using it?

Post » Sun Aug 05, 2012 5:38 pm

I know alot of people reading this are gonna be very annoyed that its being asked - but I need to know, how will steam benefit me as an xbox user on skyrim?

Will I have access to mods and new content? Will it cost me anything? Does registration for an account take forever?

Again, apologies to people who know all about this - I dont and need to know, I dont wanna wiki or google it; I'd much rather have it explained to me in simple terms by people who use it.

Nope, nothing, steam doesn't register console games

It doesn't cost anything, but you get none of the perks PC users get, its just like if you didn't have a steam account

The only real drawback to steam is that, from my experience, you have to be online to play. You can play offline, but only if you set it to "go offline" the last time you use it, i.e. when you are still online. I have a ton of steam games, but I moved, forgot to press "go offline", and had no access to them for 2 months waiting for BB...

If Steam can't connect to the internet it automatically goes into offline mode. Not sure why you're lying.

Lol, I'm not lying, in this case the situtation is that you are, actually, wrong. this happens to me all the time, it comes up with window saying "cant connect to steam" with the option to use offline mode, I press offline mode and after 10 secs get a connection error. I assure you I'm not the only one with the problem.

Also, don't be so rude.

Aaaaaaaaaand, here's a link to a very recent steam forum post about this very issue: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2649048

Rage over.

Microsoft doesn't want Valve to get their mitts on the Xbox in terms of DRM so for now at least mostly PC only

Steam is for PC. Think of it as XBL for the PC. It doesn't cost anything to register, and no, it doesn't take forever. There are free games available on it, yes, but no extra content that you don't already have (aside from content for PC exclusive games, of course). It allows you to purchase games online, and frequently has really good deals.

Steam won't benefit you as an Xbox user.

It's basically PC's equivalent of the Marketplace for Xbox.

Steam only sells official content. Mods are available elsewhere.

Steam is the best thing since sliced bread. Maybe even better than sliced bread.

You don't actually own the game either if you buy it on steam.
