Whats the "hipster" phenomenon I keep hearing about?

Post » Tue Jul 17, 2012 7:02 pm

I know, I'm probably way late to the party.
I think I have a gist of what it is, I've just never experienced before.

I'm not ashamed to admit my almost total lack of knowledge about he subject. I grew up in a small town in Nebraska and currently live in a small town in Alaska, it seems that this is mostly a city born occurance. If not a relatively "new" fad.

From what I gather, its people who like things other people don't like so they seem like they stand out. Like growing an unconventional mustache for irony's purpose.

Beyond that, I haven't a clue. Is there anything more to it?

Boy that was hard

That said "hipster" is such an overused term it has lost all meaning. I wear a plaid shirt, I'm a hipster.

I hate cod because it's popular. But most people hate cod anyway so hating cod actually makes you mainstream.

Old jeans are now replaced with chinos.
Ipod has been replaced with casette players.
Plaid shirt is replaced with a tank top - or a fishnet vest because too little nipble is too mainstream.
Skin is either orange or chalk white - because a normal colour is too mainstream.
Hair is likely a mess as well as a colour of the rainbow - or a mixture with one is too mainstream.

Huh, I didn't think wikipedia would have anything to say about it.

I admit, I didn't google it. Its midnight here and I'm tired.

Why Google something yourself when you can ask the forum and it will supply the answers while you wait for a reply :D

I can't tell if you're serious, or suppose to be mimicking a hipster.

It is quite hard to convey tone over the internet.
