So when can we expect a patch for PC?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 9:13 pm

Just wondering as there are still a few glitches that need ironing out, mostly to due with the interface and also key bindings not updating when set by the user.

I got a patch immediately. On a faster connection, it may have downloaded while you installed the game; on mine, it was already past 80% when the game finished installing.

I just played 10 minutes into the game (PC) and I love it to death. If you are one of the ones who has a problem with the UI or key bindings, I'd expect a mod before a patch.

Yeah there was an initial patch however it did nothing to address the particular problems I am having, if you are playing on the PC and wish to use custom key bindings it wont recognise the key bindings in activities such as lockpicking or leaving a conversation or loot table, also I am noticing various inconsistencies when it comes to navigating the menus with mouse or keyboard, the interface is just plain unfriendly when trying to use it on PC, surely I cant be the only one suffering these problems?

I have 4 other friends on my friend list including myself that hate the UI. It's identical to the console UI. So your not alone.

I wouldn't count on it, the UI needs complete redesigning for PC and that's not gonna happen, they'll wait for modders to do it for them.

Within a month of them releasing the SDK, no telling how long that's going to take...

mostly to due with the interface

I read on a popular image message board that there is an option to toggle gamepad style navigation in the UI for the PC, have you tried this?

Yes but there's way too many steps involved to assign them. Press TAB to bring up a menu, then click on the category you want, then you have to favorite? the item. Then leave the inventory by pressing TAB again! Then press Q to bring up another list of your items and then pressing the hotkey for that item. By far one of the most inefficient UI setups I've encountered. In Oblivion you press either f2, f3, to bring up your inventory of things you want to bind and then hold the number down and click on the item...... 2 steps.....

Yes I have to wonder what they were thinking with the whole favorites to number key option. Seems completely inefficient and not something somebody would have come up with other than forgetting to add the feature in the beginning and this being the only way for them to shove it in at the last moment.

Big bug fixing patches will take at least two weeks - anything that involves programming - because Bethesda has to send it through the pipeline of Steam/XBOX Live/PSN Network.

Bethesda HAS introduced a new patching system in Skyrim inspired by EA Sports games. If a problem or bug is caused by values in a dataset or the number in a variable, a patch can be rolled out to everyone automatically in the background in http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/bethesda-has-a-new-way-to-deal-with-bugs-in-skyrim/.

Yeah, I noticed that. Really annoying. I'm just gonna have to learn the defaults I guess, since I can't favorite anything unless certain keybinds are untouched.

And if you dual wield nothing but the going back into your inventory to re-equip will allow you get your weapon back into your left hand after using spells, also if you have two of the same item it causes a reset clearing its' hotkeyed number everytime you weapon swap, system is pretty [censored], etc etc

He has recently reappeared. :)

I've read some of his post, and he is indeed looking to do his magic, when he can. (They do it differently in Skyrim than Oblivion/Fallouts.)

P.S.

Ok, I copied the wrong DarN profile, he had a new account because he had account issues with the old one.

Try searching before making such claims. Although the creation of a DarNUI for Skyrim is not guaranteed at this point, he is certainly http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1275750-modding-the-gui/. In all likelihood, a PC UI overhaul will be a group effort due to the skillsets required to mod a UI built on Scaleform.

Hopefully the Mod Gods will step up to the plate and give us similar (Fix-all) patches like the ones for Oblivion.

Too bad they only work for the PC

PC + Skyrim = ROCKS !!

I'm not really up to speed on whats happening with the mod scene, but there is a current fix for key bindings http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=88.

Unfortunately, it doesn't address the left/right mouse .. 'err .. which hand was it? arrgh!, why's it in the left? why can't I put it in the right?' issue

Yeah I don't usually do a search if I am certain of something, seems I made a mistake though. Thank you for the advice.

It was an easy mistake to make, since he had been absent from the forums (even his own) for a long time. In his own words, though, the Skyrim UI was so bad that he had to come back to see what could be done.

The problem with the PC patch, is that they are contractually obligated to release patches on all platforms simultaneously (unless the patch fixes issues only encountered on PC). This means they need the approval of Microsoft and Sony before they release a patch, which as I understand it, can be a really slow process. I've heard it can even take several months between when Bethesda releases it, and when MS approves it. Having seen these types of contacts before, it wouldn't surprise me that there is a clause in the contract which prevents Bethesda from disclosing that MS/Sony is the one holding things up.

In regards to the interface, it will not get "fixed" in the patch. There aren't enough people complaining about any specific issue for them to worry about addressing it. Furthermore, everyone has a different idea of what the interface should be. And since it is largely the PC user-base that is complaining, they can safely leave that one for the CK.
