Where can I get some of those gov't rounds?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:10 am

Because all I find are hollow points. But are there any standard rounds?

The quartermaster at the Hoover Dam usually has some.

Gun Runners had a few, but I barely found any through the entire game. I liked that weapon too. :(

Kill some Veteran Rangers. They usually carry brush guns and .45-70 gov't rounds.

.45-70 Gov't is the most rare ammo in the game i believe. That being said, I have only found some as a result of opening up a ammunition container.

Would it be possible to break down the hollow points and turn them into regular rounds?

...which is, logically, totally bogus. I wonder if this was done as a balancing measure or simply because to offer the option to break down ALL types of ammo would pretty much triple the size of the list.

A mod has been out for a while that lets you break down pretty much all ammo.

@ OP You can buy the ingredients to make it at the gun runners, they usually have enough for 25-50 rounds (only had enough for 50 one time in 3 runs) every time they restock. If you are on the PC I would suggest getting the mod I was talking about earlier, because 25 rounds every three days is not enough.

If you're gonna go .45-70 best learn to hand load because you'll want SWC for the important jobs.

Just buy whatever you can get, shoot stuff and then reload SWC. The hollow points work decently against mid-level stuff, Fiends, GKs, bark scorpions, etc...

I have 1245 Gov't Rounds.
It took a LONG time.

I had to murder NCR rangers for their ammo and shells.
Wait for them to respawn, and repeat the process all over again.
But it is great wasting almost everything in the wastes because of that gun.

Both the Gun Runners southish of Freeside and the annoying guy(Alexander?) wandering around below the food shop at that place you meet Veronica at(the 188 something or other?) sell it. I think the actual Gun Runners shop does only sell hollow points, but Alexander sells normal ones too. You need 45 guns skill to get him to sell you anything, but if you don't have that you really shouldn't be bothering with that ammo to begin with.

You could check the "Arms Merchant" above him in the same place(also affiliated with Gun Runners apparently) , and the BoS shop, though those two generally carry 0-10 of the more rare stuff at best.

I don't know anything about the Hoover Dam though, any time i go near it my save corrupts :/ Hence why i have no idea what the names of anything is anymore.

You can shoot 'em off and get back some percentage of the cases to reload

ps Hollow points work GREAT on Geckos and Ghouls and Cazadors

Best way to get hand-load gov't ammo is to get the reload perk, buy hollow points, shoot them into a nearby walls or enemies and keep the cases. After that you can easily either buy the components you need OR you can break down .308 ammo to get what you need.
