Seriously Im level 15 mage and I still hang out with this crappy Novice cloth, when or where do I get a better light mage armor with buffs and stuff without killing a "good" NPC?

If your level 15 you should at least have some dwaven armor in shops. Other than that I guess you can try to make some?

I will admit, from what I've seen the variations in robe designs seem to be very limited. I've only seen maybe seven different designs and only two or three of them have been unenchanted.

Granted there's only a handful of different light and heavy armor designs as well, but they're far more detailed while most of the robes just look like they were recolored.

dwarven armors are heavy weight as far as I know... and making an armor isnt possible for me since i wont put any perks in smithing.

If you're a mage go kill mages. If you go into random dungeons you should find some. As a warrior I feel like I find some "magika regenerated 30% faster" gear all the time. And i'm level 15. Otherwise I assume Winterhold has some.

Light armors at level 15?
There's Hide, Leather, Studded and Robes plus a few others.

You're stuck with robes all the way to master, even. Heavier armor hinders magicka regen, I believe. That 100%+ magicka regen found on robes is necessary. It's a real bummer. :(

Yeah, my bad, robes... my friend told me about enchanting which I never understood how to use, however, what bothers me mostly is the feeling of Im not getting anywhere? I think its a big part of rpg's when u get a new item and ur like awesome, I wanna keep getting those, I dont care about the robe being weak or anything, it just bothers me to keep traveling with this same Novice robe, I dont feel a progression, is there any robes like the grey beards have?
You know its kinda odd though, Stealth classes can get great armor from either Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guild, however I havent heard about a mage getting anything interesting from the Mage College

Ok. Learn Enchanting. Problem solved. I mean, that's exactly what enchanting is for. Take the ability off of a robe and enchant what you want with it. Hell, you can even enchant ordinary clothes if you want. You can enchant anything anybody else can wear as long as it isnt already enchanted, and if you work really hard at it you can make it even more powerful than your typical robe buff.

Also, you can buff your armor with alteration spells (oakflesh, stoneflesh, ironflesh etc.) and the supporting perks.
