Where is a safe place to keep my stuff?

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2011 5:04 am

So I hear later on one gets a house.

But right now, early in the game, ...

where is a safe place to stow things so that when I come back later, whenever that may be, it'll be there and not disappear whether by a game "bug" or another NPC on a stealing spree. I need to stow things like the SnowGlobes or extra magazines or unique items. I don't need to carry any SnowGlobes or such things around with me, but I do need a failsafe place to keep them.

So, where is a good safe storage location?

Presidential Suite in the Lucky 38. There is an empty footlocker next to a bed, or you can buy one from the terminal.

I keep my stuff in one of the ammo crates in victor's hut.

I just keep mine in the crates outside Goodsprings General Store or in the safe at Novac.

Victor's and the General Store crates. Good to know. Thanks.

Are there any safe storage places farther from Goodsprings? Such as around the Mojave Outpost or in a cave or by Nipton or Primm?

I haven''t heard too many reports of stored items vanishing, unlike some previous games.

I think you are expected to use unowned beds / storage pretty much where ever you find them. It would be nice if the Devs were not silent on this issue though.

In the early stages of the game i used an abandonded shack just west of the Yangtze Memorial (the large crucifix you can see directly east of Goodsprings).

This is a pretty decent home at the beginning of the game. Theres a bed, a fire, a workbench and an ammunition crate that can hold a ridiculous amount of gear considering its modest size.

It's also really close to Goodsprings for fresh water and medical care.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Yeah. That's why I'm asking.

I took a chance storing some items in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky. All items were present at any time when ever I passed by that storage container. But now I thought I'd ask.

in the outpost any crates (like the ones outside the barraks) in Nipton any house pretty much (I stored stuff in the one with reloading bench) also novac you can get a motel room for 100 caps (or free if they idolize you) and you can store everything there.

I've used boxes in Goodspring gas station, filing cabinets in Primm's sheriff's office, the safe inside ranger station charlie, another random oven into a random location house, and they've never disappeared. I'm assuming (dangerous business) any indoors container would be persistent.

Ship them to yourself.

There are drop boxes in various settlements that you can use to send items to other boxes. It's good if you want to move things across the map, but I used them for storage until I got my room at the Lucky 38. Just mail it to yourself and don't pick it up. There's a box at the courier office in Primm and in the monorail station on the stip, if you haven't run into them before. Other settlements have them as well, but I don't remember any other exact locations.

Thanks for the replies.

The mailboxes ... ummmm ... I mean ... the dropboxes work? Wow! I'll have to check that out!

Yeah they do work, but they don't work as well as a container though. You can put any item you want in, but you can't choose what items you want to take out. When you take the items from the box, it'll all or nothing.

After you do Nipton, I'd suggest moving into the General Store there (when you fast travel to goodsprings you have to jog all the way over to Victor's shack; But when you FT to Nipton the General Store is a lot closer).

Come to think. The reason I choose the Goodspring gas station is because nearby there's a workbench and a reloading station.

Is there anywhere else in the game like that, with an indoor location either close to both kind of stations or have both?

I rented a hotel room in Novac for an indeterminate time period -- the gas station there has a reloading station and I THINK a workbench. No idea if it's safe to store stuff there, but that's what I'm trying now.

Lone wolf radio

It is exactly 2 sqaures down on the map from goodsprings and has a bed and a footlocker.
I have been using this for 15 hours and the loot is still there so id say its pretty safe.
The bed and footlocker are about 3 seconds away from the fast travel and you get to live as mojave trailer trash. Hell its even got a radio

Me i used the Gas station in Goodsprings after i saved that Caravan guy there is a safe on the floor and a bed to sleep in.. I used it for aloooong time too and i still am.. I just got into the strip and there is a free room in the lucky 38... However if your like me and spent 20 hours in the game before going to the strip... there are other places.. For example you can rent a room at that place with the dinosaur. There are alot of abanded houses that you can just time travel directly too also..

If you help out Novac (I don't remember if its a specific quest or reputation) and ask the women in the Dino Dee-lite motel about renting a room and she will give you it for free. There are a lot of types of containers if you like to organize like I do.

And It is close to ammo, workbenches and a doctor.

Important note but spoiler:
