Where is the best place to store books?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 5:31 am

I'm becomming a bit of an amateur collector on books, and i have now too many to carry around with me.

Can any one tell me a good place to store my books? I really like how bookshelves work in the game now, but what place can you own that has a lot of them? So far i have found that the home in Markarth has 3, but i would like a setting more akin to a library to store my treasures!

On a shelf.?

Really though, while i havn't had the money to buy a house ,i've been using an old tower in the middle of nowere for my home. I'm getting so used to it i just my stay here lol. It's very piecefull and the views are lovely. It also didn't cost me a penny. I just needed to clear the bandits out and it was mine! :D

There is a wardrobe and a chest of draws at this place for me to store lots of goodies.

I'm not 100% positive but I wouldn't put anything valuable there...might disappear after the 48 hour respawn thing.

I stopped and pile them in a chest now. I actaully try and stand all the books up in a row on a book shelf nice and neat, but just don't have time for that been fast skill levelign istead of colelctign books and questing.

The upgraded sanctuary at the end of the Dark Brotherhood quest line has some pretty neat storage solutions. Including a weapon rack where I keep my favourite outdated weapons.

Also if you just want to dump stuff somewhere safe and easy to get to there are some barrels in the stables outside Whiterun so you can fast travel there and they are just a few meters away.

in Oblivion I had been told to use the pirate ship in the harbor, but when i came back all my stuff was gone and the original contents had respawned.
I would wager this will be true of Skyrim too.

so if there is a safe house that we can use, i would be interested in it as well.

does anyone know where the cheapest house is?

Is there actually any need to keep books after youve read them once other than for fun?

Are there any secret quests or anything available when you collect a set of books?

Thats the only reason im keeping booksatm, just incase getting a set unlocks something. Currently they are sitting in my home on bookshelves.

I've been putting my books in the bedside table of my dorm room at Winterhold. I take no chances with containers - whether or not any place is presented as a player home, I console setOwnership all the containers I put things in.

Can't you just BUY a house in Whiterun?
(I think it's 5000 gold)

Talk to the Jarl's advisor.

An owned house is the best place. The chests, cabinets, etc are either bottomless, or can hold a ton of stuff. Your items also don't disappear as I've had stuff in their for well over a in game week.

If you buy the house in whiterun and activate the book shelf it will put the book on the shelf all nice and neat for you.

I know that. My bookshelf there is now full, and all of the books are in the chest above. I'm asking because with the guilds and marriage, there must be quite a lot of places you can make to be your home. I'm sure there will be one with a great library of sorts that i can use.

I thought the Arch Mages quarters would be the prime candidate but i found that all of the shelves were for ingredients and not for books.
