It's the Dawnguard side quest 'Bolstering the Ranks'. The books isn't mandatory but UESP says there's 4 of them and I have 3. Quest takes place in Ruunvald.

Memory is a little fuzzy since it was a week ago or so that I did this quest, but I'm fairly certain the last book isn't titled Discovering Ruunvald vol. IV.

Isn't the 4th book titled after the name of the vampire who is controlling the vigilants? Begins with an M, if I recall correctly. The original writer of the first 3 is still the author, but he starts to allude to himself as a Vigilant of M-------. Or maybe I've scrambled the whole thing. If that's the book, it's on the last level on a table before you enter the final chamber.

I found a book in the very last room before you enter the room with the arkay guy, it's on a table and more of a jornal

I have played the vampire side of the DLC and we dont get the Ruunvald quest.
Can someone tell me where it is on the map please?

I read on a wiki it was east of the Stor Watch town but I never found it. I too am playing as a vampire.

Ive found Ruunvald, its just a little south east of Tovald's cave.
It does not appear as an icon on the map for vampire players and you need a key to get in

He buddy, you need to find Ruunvald Excavation.... i already did the vl side and deleted the save so i can't check it anymore, but i know that the dawnguard side enters that place through the Ruunvald Excavation.

Ps Ruunvald is closed for the dawnguard also.... so you need to find the other entrance

If you're standing infrond of the closed door, go to the left of that door up the mountan and you find it.... its a little to the right when you go up.

Yes the imperial toaster should have said it. Beth is no stranger to putting easter eggs in games that reference other things, so it would have made sense for Colonel Tullius to have said it.

It's not? it has a map marker and all.... weird. When you play the Dawnguard side you can go to Red Water Den, but you can't go to the Ruunvald Excavation.... that's just lame.

Ps it isn't an easy place to find.... are you sure? it's just above the temple door way, way up.

Ive looked around the entire area.
It could be that Im missing it, as neither Ruunvald or Ruunvald excavation have a map marker, but I dont think so.

Ruunvald temple door doesn't have one, but Ruunvald excavation has a cave marker on the Dawnguard side.

I didn't go there on my VL play through, so maybe it's not there now.... lame if you ask me.
