Where is the update from Bethesda on Startup crash

Post » Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:10 pm

I have always been a big fan of Bethesda and, until now, had not had any significant issue with how they have handled game support. It could just be me but there seems to be a very big misunderstanding at both Bethesda studios and with the gaming community. There are two distinct and different issues at play here when it comes to crashing - maybe more but at least two main ones that are discussed:

1.) Player can start game and load into a save or start for first time, then they experience either a random or a specific crash (at a specific time and place)
2.) Game crashes on startup - no ability to do anything in game because IT CRASHES AT STARTUP (this is Caps becasue so many people responding seem to ignore this fact when posting advice)

I was able to play the game when it first came out for four hours and then, all of a sudden, BANG - it has been weeks since I could even get into the game. It just constatnly crashes at startup. I even rebuilt my entire machine with clean reinstall of everything from the ground up and after installing Dishonored again - same thing. I initially tried the million things that are on the web for Dishonored crashes before realizing that most, if not all, are tailored for the first issue mentioned above.

As I mentioned before, it seems that there is almost a denial of the 2nd issue in favor of bucketing everything under the "game crashes on mission xxx, area xxx" thinking. I would like to hear from Bethesda that they understand that issue 2 is a distinct issue, in my opnion most likely related to Video drivers packaged with PhysX that came out later than the version packaged in their final game build. I admit I have not had the energy yet to test that theory, nor the desire to take my nice clean rebuilt machine and start reverting back to old video card drivers. If I see another person tell me or someone else to enter "-windowed" and it will fix it - I am going to scream; "-windowed" is a workaround fix for number 1 above. I have also tried all of the other crazy things mentioned for crashing and nothing has worked. In my Windows Event Viewer I still see PhysX install issue errors very close to the crash error almost every time I try to load game. This even though all other games I play on Steam, and have installed since, work fine. I even uninstalled physx and installed the version that came with Dishonored and this didn't work. I also manually ran the installation packages that came with dishonored and this didn't work.

When is there going to be more of an acknowledgement that this issue is a significant issues and when can we expect the fix not only for #1 but also #2 above? I tried to scan around to see if there already was a solid acknowledgement before posting this so forgive me if I missed it and I will politely pull back some of my comments above is this is the case. Thanks again.

Wrong people. Dishonered is made by Arkane Studios.

I appreciate your reply but I am not sure I understand you point or the reason why you posted it. This is the [ Dishonored | Bethesda Softworks Forums | Dishonored | Issues | PC] forum so pointing out that it is the "wrong" people seems odd. Even if you want to make a point that this should go to the developer, Bethesda has an accountability and an ability to influence Arkane. They are, after all, involved in - and making money on - the game. It is also clear that they established a technical forum, not under Arkane studios but Bethesda, so does it really matter which one is notified. I would hope that, as partners, they are both getting all of this information and have access to these forums. If you have a better suggestion please let me know how you would have proceeded otherwise I would like to move on and see what others have to say about the actual game issue. Thanks
