Where is the water at Hoover Dam?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:40 am

I just saw Hoover Dam for the first time.

I was doing the quest Return To Sender and saw it from the Scenic Lookout point to the east of the Ranger Station. "Real Cool Looking" I thought as I peered through the fence watching the water creating huge clouds of mist as it was pouring from both sides of the canyon from the canyon wall outlet pipes into the river below. What a view!

So I wanted to see this misty view from the dam.

But I was disappointed. After arriving at the dam, from the vistor center roof to the tower roof at the center of the dam and all points in between, there was no water spilling out to be seen and no huge clouds of mist to be seen in the distance. :(

What do I need to do to see the misty water clouds from the dam?

All my graphics settings in the game are on high. There must be a settings file somewhere where I can edit a distance setting to see this.

Can you guys who are playing on an Xbox or PS3 see the water mist clouds from the dam on stock settings?

The only way to increase draw distance will also turn your "high settings" into "I want to kill my computer" setting. Currently the game renders 25 cells (5x5 grid) and one up from that is a 7x7 grid, or 49 cells. Double the distance means double the hardware requirements.

I'll try it. Where is it?

It doesn't seem that far from the dam to the outflow pipes. It's something that should be rendered because of the ares.

I can see it fine too. But not while standing on the dam. Can you see it while your character is standing on the vistor center roof?

I just double checked my settings by clicking on "Ultra" and making sure all sliders are at the extreme right.

I then went to the section at Hoover Dam where the Speaking Platform is by the Visitor Centor and looked down river towards the SouthEast. I did not see the millions of gallons of water pouring out of the concrete outlet pipes which are high above the river. Neither side. Of course when I set "noclip" active and "fly" over the river downriver to the SouthEast, about halfway there the water starts pouring out of those pipes and the mist appears.

I'm running a 4870X2 video card and would like better distance viewing than what I'm getting. What card are you running?
