Which Elder Scrolls first?

Hi all.
Wanted to ask if it is best to play Morrowind and Oblivion before Skyrim?
I have played a bit of Oblivion a while ago now and wanted to start playing Elder Scrolls again :)
But should I just get Skyrim or would I benefit from playing the others first?
Thanks

While the game are connected in the way they all take place on the same continent and whatnot and you might stumble upon an ingame book or something that makes you go "aha", they aren't really connected that much so you will benefit from it. Skyrim takes place 200 years after Oblivion, so quite a lot of stuff happened between them.

It isn't absolutely necessary to play the earlier games first. There are references to the earlier games in the later games, but the later games are not dependant on the earlier games, in terms of story or characters.

In terms of gameplay, if I were doing it all over again and I knew what I know now I would probably play them in reverse order: Skyrim, Oblivion, then Morrowind. By the time I got to Morrowind I would be highly impressed with all of the choices and options available in that game. Playing the games in sequential order might lead some people to feel disappointed over how much has been removed with each game.

Thanks for your input guys :)
I might try Morrowind as I never played that and see if I can get through all 3 before the online MMO launches.
I'm hoping it's gonna be a cracker :D
