Which game has the best character creation this gen

Without any doubts, even if not a 1 player game, best character creation is in EvE-Online.

Depends on what criteria you want to meet. I'd say baldurs gate 2. While the character creation in the start is just stats, classes, skills and such. You have the whole definition of your character, just like any bioware game. Neverwinter nights 1 and 2(not being a bioware game) being close follow ups to baldurs gate. These also allow you to define you character rather well. Something elder scrolls series have always lacked(morrowind and daggerfall being the best on social interaction currently, oblivion was just bad). I believe character generation is not just the first screen where you make your characters visuals, but also when you define who your character is by playing as them, having your choices define your character.

Why isnt Eye of the Beholder on the list? Was totally awesome.

I loved Daggerfall and Oblivion, I think there actually is a mod that allows some of D creation into O, but never got the cahnce to try it.

Thx for sharing these absolutely amazing sources.

I cannot disagree in the least about Eve: Astonishing, really.

Yeah, the Initiation Station's pretty cool. Could use a couple more body sliders, though - it'd be nice to adjust the width of the shoulders/waist/hips separately, not just the overall "skinny / strong / fat" thing they have.

...some of the superhero MMOs (like City of Heroes) have pretty good character customization as well. But (at least in CoH) very little of it's in the head & face - it's mostly body proportions and costume. Haven't tried Champions & DC:Online, but they're both f2p now, so it'd be easy enough to check out. (DC:O's a pretty huge download, though.)

the initiation station only features a few parts of the overall Creatot, it was said on their forums that once the game is actualy relased the actual char creator will have alot more options to choose from, not sure if this means body sizes of Height though im not sure, but clothes, tattoo' s and other stuff is confirmed.

OT: Yeah TES series has one of the better Creators for your char in as much as choice goes BUT i find that if they made it a little more like SR in as much as you can customise each part of the body specificaly, like ears, nose, mouth, jaws, chin, forhead and eyes it would make a much more individual char. that being said ive never played games as large as TES and with as many different races to play.

I don't know about Saint's Row: The Third, the game isn't out yet so I haven't tested it. But...Aion's got a pretty amazing character creation, it's overwhelming. You can do whatever you want there. Really.

2. Mass Effect / Mass Effect 2
x. Its hard to make a pretty female Shepard

My female Shepard is super cute. :hubbahubba:

It's all about regularity and proportion... Here is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVupnnudKkQ that goes into beauty. I don't know if it is true or not, but I kind of go by this when making faces.

My male Shepard had his mouth a little bit too low on the face and it kind of bugged me the whole of ME1. I was kind of going for Cho from the Mentalist (Tim Kang) but it made him look too horsy.

Saints row 2. Maybe in the full game of 3 I can make my own clothes or move tattoos about and increase size. But so far it seems a step back from 2.

Impressed with Saint's Row 3 character creator. A lot of options to make weirdly shaped characters, yet nothing extreme that screams "fake" in the end.

On a older game, Aion MMO has a lot of possibilities too : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE_Ake-mh4U

Oh wow. No slider bars? It's so simple! Why would any game use slider bars after this?

EVE Online. That thing is amazing.

Yep.

Sliders bars would help though. EVE's was good but I'd have preferred some sliders for minor tweaks.

Saints Row 3's creator is bad. Characters are fugly looking, crap body options, crap aging options, crap clothing options, etc.. If you're gonna make a creator more complex with more things to do, make it right or don't bother.

Never heard of Saint's Row but all those recommendations caught my interest. Is Saint's Row truly a worthy series?

Not sure. Looks pretty wacky/crazy.

But the character creator's available for free download at the moment (from Steam, and on XBL and PSN apparently?) Don't think I'm getting the game, but it was still fun to play around with.
