Which graphic card for Crysis 2?

Post » Mon Aug 09, 2010 9:29 am

I′m really looking forward to get this awesome game, so i′m planing to replace my 9800GT to play this one. The candidates for me are the GTX 460 or the 470. Both are the gigabyte OC edition. So the question is, would the 460 be enough to play crysis 2 at 1366x758 with all the filters? Does the 470 worth the extra 60€?

My PSU is CoolBox f500+, is this a limitant factor?

Thanks for your time and answers ;)

Nobody knows.

No system requirements have been released.

At that resolution, the GTX 460 will be more than enough. Also, with a GTX 470, that power supply wouldn't cut it.

The requirements have been said to be similar to the original but the performance in crysis 2 will be better. Therefore if the gtx460 can run crysis 1 it can run crysis 2.

So, yes, the gtx460 will be perfectly fine for that resolution.

Yes a 460 or 470 should be fine with crysis 2 although i'd upgrade the PSU too.
If that 500 means 500 Watts than you really should upgrade to at least 850 watt PSU.

I'm sure that down the road you'll want to upgrade again and that 500 W PSU just won't cut it.

500w will be just fine.

You also only need 850W if you're doing a crossfireX rig or SLi. The OP can just upgrade their PSU when they do a full system upgrade anyway.

We have stated a few times officially that Crysis 2 will run fine on all modern cards, generally, if your PC could run Crysis 1, it should have no issues with Crysis 2.

Any new cards coming onto the market should be allow you to up the resolution and the overall graphics quality such as Anti Aliasing (AA).

I think a 580 will just play it on high as default if single. But in SLI, it can handle beyond that.

Apart from the 500 Watts, it′s got 18.0 A on the 12V. The requeriments of 470 are 35 A accumulated, so 18+18=36.I thinks it may be enough, can anybody confirm?

(I mean for 470)

Hmm, 18a is fairly weak. I wouldn't run a 470 off an 2x18a setup but it depends on what the rest of your system is. To put it into perspective, my Corsair HX-620 has a single 50a 12v rail. The problem with multi-rail PSU's is spreading the load evenly across the rails isn't easy.

You can see how the cards perform in Crysis Warhead here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4008/nvidias-geforce-gtx-580/6

The 460 is a fantastic value card. Dunno what prices are like over there, but there's a huge difference between 460 and 470 prices that the performance isn't justified in. :)

I'm hoping to be picking up a 580 in the coming weeks. Get my DX11 pants on.

I bet Crysis 2 will look the same on a Gtx 285/280/295.
I dont think Crysis 2 will use that much exclusive Direct X 11 Features that would make it look way different ( or better) than with Dx10.
Maybe even the same (and almost non mentionable) differences like in Stalker C.O.P. and Metro 2033. Slightly better lights and shadows and Charackters that look pumped up like the michelin guy.

But if anyone is going to buy a new card..then the 460 is probably a good choice.
Because the "older" Dx10 cards are still very expensive.
Bit i will keep my Gtx 280. Its strong enough to take on any game for at least one more year.
