Which graphical mods to install for first play-through?

Post » Tue Aug 18, 2015 11:58 am

Just bought Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition.

Since it's a 2008 game, it will look ugly in 2015.

Which graphical mods should I install for my first play-through?

Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.4 GHz
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 OC

I only use two graphics mods and I tend to alternate between them.

Both mods do the same things, which is why I don't use them in the same game. They both make nights realistically dark and both remove the pallid, de-saturated look of the game and add a bit of color into the landscape. I slightly favor DC Moods because I like most of the changes it makes to lighting in many interiors.
But, to be honest, I would play a few hours of the game before adding graphics mods, to find out what you like and don't like. Some players like vanilla Fallout's desaturated look. You may find that you are one of them. But the only way to find that out is to play the vanilla game for a bit first.

I was hoping there would be mods that increase poly counts, add more modern graphical effects etc. rahter that mods that just change the color/mood :)

I'm sure there are. But I don't use any of them, so I don't know which to suggest. *shrugs* You'll have to wait for somebody else who actually uses those mods to suggest some.

DC Moods also has a graphics enhancer version

Flora Overhaul: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/19864/?

NMC Texture Pack: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/12056/?

krzymar HI-RES Moon http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/538/?

and various body, clothing and weapon texture replacers.

There are over 2000 files currently available in the Gameplay Effects and Changes.

Graphics are a personal choice, so I have listed what I use.
