Which version shall I buy?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 8:17 pm

I have a PS3 and a 24" iMac running Windows 7 in Bootcamp that is coming up to 3 years old but it was the top spec at the time.

What I like about the PS3 is that I can sit comfortably on my sofa in front of my 32" Samsung LCD HD TV (not 1080p but 1080i unfortunately).

On the downside I tend to prefer using a keyboard and mouse to play first person shooters. I know Skyrim isn't classed as one but I played Oblivion mostly in first person and when in combat it will probably be better using a keyboard and mouse than a controller.

Also, there is the issue of graphics and overall performance. Does the PS3 degrade over time performance wise? I haven't a clue how my PS3 will compare to my iMac performance wise but here is the spec of my iMac if it helps:

Windows 7 (32 bit)
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
500GB HD
3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM

Thanks in advance and if this should be moved elsewhere I apologise.

Medium - high mix on that card with around 30-50 fps no doubt, PC. chokes down to 30 because it calls for a quad core, but it'll still be more fluid than console.

PC>Console, always, if you have a half decent rig.

Well I personally prefer console. But it seems like PC might work better for you. All depends though, play Oblivion or Morrowind, see what you like more :P

His rig is twice as good as any console, it will run better. Console = low settings. You'll get 60 fps at low on that rig, @ 1080p. Consoles = barely 720p, and 30 fps, no AA, rofl.

@ OP your rig will run it fine. PC ALL THE WAY MAN!

If you're confident you can run it on PC then I'd go for that. PCs can encounter many errors and unforeseen problems, whereas consoles tend to be more reliable. It's up to you and how good your PC is, though.

You nailed it. All 3 of those factors. Mods especially, as much as I hate extensive modding.

PC obviously, better controls, better graphics and most likely better performance ^^.. And I dont see why some Pc gamers feel like they have to sit up and down in a chair to play.. I'm always halfway lying being as comfy as any couch

You think this not possible with PC?

PC, as the others said before me, because of mods, better performance and better graphics.

Moreover a pc game is more futureproof. Who knows perhaps within some months you'll buy an even better computer... you'll be sad you didn't get the pc version then.

On the other hand, if a "PS4" gets released, your game won't run on it.

I would usually go for a game like this on the PC, better graphic and mods, however, I find the comfort of sitting on sofa in my living room much more important than that better graphic.

Pretty much sick of sitting on the computer chair, so I say:

PS3.

Good luck no matter your decision.

For such a long game, I prefer to be comfortable and having a large TV in front of me. Being so close to a monitor for a long period of time strains my eyes. Go console if you care less about graphics and more about comfort.

In your opinion.

As you can use the 360 controller, PC controls are always >= 360 controls.

Enjoyment factors are subjective, all my PC's can run the game just fine but I'll be sat in fromt of my PS3 and 40" HD TV by choice happily clicking away with the pad.

Unless it's bug ridden in which case I'll be on here tearing Beth a new one.

Ever thought about plugging your PC to your TV? Get the benefits from both.

Solution - use an xbox controller for your pc.

I play on PC and still get the sofa/LCD TV benefit. 10m HDMI extension cable and wireless mouse/kyboard do the trick nicely!
