Which version should I buy?

Post » Sat Sep 29, 2012 9:26 am

I have a bit of a dilemma here; I have an excellent computer, I can play any game on max graphics because I custom built it, however I also have an XBOX 360. I kind of want to get it for my computer just because I want more games for it, but I have been pressured by several of my friends telling me to get it for the 360. They don't have a good reason to support that choice at all, other than "it's an xbox." I know that as a multiplatform game the graphics won't change that much from console to desktop either, not enough to truly be noticeable. Also, my XBOX is more portable than my PC which is 3 1/2' tall, 3 1/2' deep, and 3/4' wide, so not portable at all, which means if I go visit my parents for a weekend, I will be without the game, whereas I can fit my xbox and a monitor in a backpack. If I was told to choose now or die, it would be the pc version, but I want some other more informed opinions from my fellow supernatural assassins.

I don't think I would classify it as a great game in this case. It is a multiplatformer so it will be less graphically exhausting on the machine than the original Crysis for instance. Games that are released only for PC are more graphically intense than multiplatformers usually (Games like Minecraft are a definite exception) So while Dishonored is going to be the most amazing new IP since Star Wars was filmed, and it will be beautiful, it will not put the biggest strain on the processors, so you should be fine.

Yeah I am facing the same issue with the ps3 and the 360 but if you have a really good pc than get it for pc. I will probably end up with the ps3 one because it is a single player game so it really doesn't matter.

PC, very, very definitely. There WILL be a significant difference in graphics quality (better textures, antialiasing etc.), and it's the futureproof version, with a strong possibility of mods and fan-patches. Look at the Thief community, they're still churning out quality stuff for Thief II, 12 years after the release!

Also, the PC version is more configurable, and keyboard + mouse is always a better control scheme for a first person game.

I completely agree with this and would advise the same thing. They will most likely release mod tools, I have a strong feeling they might because they know how strong the modding community is and have seen what it's done to Thief 2 and Deus Ex.

And I completely agree with this

It gives more precision and a more natural feel to first person games.

I was a tad underwhelmed by the graphics on the 360 when I played recently,so I'd say if your rig can run it ,do the game justice and play it how they intended on PC.

This late in the console generation the PC version of a multiplatform game is usually a noticably better choice. For example, with the PC version of Skyrim you can play the game with higher resolution, higher framerate, higher textures and have far more detail going on, and yet experience shorter loading times. So http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1403824-pc-system-requirements-for-dishonored-announced/, I recommend going the PC route.

And because it's a singleplayer game it doesn't really matter what platform the friends are playing it on, it's not like you will be able to play it together or anything anyway.

I agree with Freddo, I'd personally go for the PC in your position. Even though the requirements seem high, you should be able to run it even with a decent computer. Arkane also said that the PC version will have x2 better textures than the console version, plus AA.

In reality the game will be around 15 hours so it doesn't have to be portable, and unless you want to talk to your friends in party chat while you play, PC is the clear choice here.

PC has that too. There is no reason to buy it for the xbox, unless you (like me) have a few years old mac. My mac can run TF2, Portal 2 and L4D2 fine, but that′s where it ends.
