Whiterun is bugged. Help please

Post » Mon Mar 25, 2013 4:40 am

Since skyrim 1.9 released if I try to go near whiterun I ctd if I manage to get to whiterun by constantly quicksaving and I try to go into whiterun I ctd and it is on all saves I created a new character and I still cant go into whiterun on my last save i was in the general goods store so im stuck there. When the patch came out I verified my game and some files were missing it updated and I could go in but its happening again so is there a fix or do I have to verify my cache every time i want to go in whiterun?

I had such a problem caused by a quest mod.

Try turning all mods off and active them a few at a time and test if the game crashes.

Over one hundred mods installed? What kind of computer do you have that seriously can run all those mods at once?

I chose the parts and built it myself also because im playing on a TV and not a monitor the resolution is 1366x768 wich takes alot of pressure of the graphics card but it can run at 1080.

You are new to TES aren't you, or at the minimum new to modding TES.

Only ever ADD mods to a save, NEVER remove them, untold number of untold things can happen.

If you simply just remove everything, your game should CTD immediately, or at least relatively quickly.

If you keep CTDing at a known location, as in you know where it will happen, the crash is caused by some bad reference in your savegame, and will probably always happen.
I had this before, on an xbox, so it's not just PC's that can bork their saves.

I know about things like that but why is it happening in the first place i can only think of 1 mod I uninstalled and that was true death so I dont know why it would affect only whiterun.

Still, over one hundred mods? Does anyone even need that many mods at once?

Yes I do.

How? You have over 100 mods and you wonder why you have a ctd problem? With that many mods I'd say it is safe to say you're not really playing Skyrim anymore.

I have around 30 hours game time the mods were fine untill this update and my console game time was around 300 hours the mods I have installed are just putting things in the game that should have be in anyway.

300 hours on console, yet there's over a hundred things that should have been included in the first place?

Seriously, people. I've had over 100 mods on most of my characters, it's nothing surprising. You add a few texture mods, a bunch of realism mods, a new house here, flocks of birds there and before you know it you're in the hundreds. My 'essential mods' list included almost 30 plugins. Only now will I be able to reduce it, a year and a half after Skyrim's release, because the overhaul that fixes most of my gripes with the game was released recently.

If you want to fix the bugs, interface and controls, enhance the graphics and introduce basic realism/survivalism, you're looking at 20+ mods right there.

I like how this thread has stopped talking about the subject and is about my addiction to mods.

I keep the controls as is as and the survivalist mods aren't a must for me. When you say realism mods, do you mean stuff like footprints in the snow and water dripping off the character.

Not only. I was mainly thinking about Realistic Needs and Diseases, Economics of Skyrim and Subliminal Traps (this one is not necessary by any means, but I'm very demanding when it comes to traps and stealth in general).

:P Alright, here's what you should do: first make sure that all your mods are up to date. Then start turning them off, half at a time, and check if a new character is able to enter Whiterun (don't do it on an old save, you'll only mess it up). As you narrow down the list of acitve mods, you may be able to determine which one is the culprit.
