Who's in Charge of the Blades?

Their history would suggest the Dragonborn is, because they at least were committed to being his bodyguards and fighting for him, but if more recent events in the game are anything to go by (Delphine and Esbern giving him orders), then they now seem to be more committed to killing dragons than to Dragonborn. Delphine's ultimatum to kill Paarthurnax also shows signs that they seem to have gone their own way since their slaughter by the Thalmor. Or is it because Skyrim's Dragonborn isn't an emperor that they don't seem so loyal to him?

I don't think not being an Emperor has any meaning to these Blades.

I think Delphine is just an arrogant brat who doesn't like things not falling in perfectly with her grand plan.

With the way she acts, I would be surprised if she sees the Dragonborn as anything more than a tool. Her Blades are a different bunch all together the way I see it. Carrying on in name, but not in spirit. Esbern seems alright, but he's pretty submissive to Delphine.

Or maybe I'm putting far too much thought into the poorly thought out quest at the end.

Well, how kind would you be if you've suffered decades of witchhunts, and the deaths of all but one of your friends, family, loved ones etc.
She's still a hardass who should help the Dovahkiin, but I can see where she's coming from.

The real crime is that Bethesda doesn't involve her in anything. She could have been an amazing follower tied into all sorts of things. But she just kind of sits in cloud ruler temple, doing nothing but ask for a few followers to serve as bodyguards.

Esbern is even worse. Wise sage my ass.

It's strange, Oblivion gets dumped on for writing but Baurus was a great character. He had to deal with his failure in his sacred duty, the death of his emperor and you helped him track down the cult. It was great.

I liked the voice acting too. It seemed to fit him. [/offtopic]
