Who's on Steam?

Post » Fri May 31, 2013 10:42 pm

Just curious to see who uses Steam on a regular basis.

Why? because it has DRM, which is a pretty touchy topic in the world of computer gaming. I myself prefer to have DRM free games (go GoG!) but I do use Steam regularly because of it's near monopoly on digital PC games. The social aspect if a plus however (add me at "Lance Avion").

I, for one, accept our Valve overlords.

Steam is basically how I buy all my computer games. Back when I lived on an island in the middle of nowhere, it was far quicker to download a new game than wait a week for Amazaon to get it to me physically.

Now that I'm on the mainland again it's a habit I've kept. I only buy physical copies if I'm getting a collectors edition, and even then I'll just activate it on Steam rather than install off the disk.

I'll use Steam when I have no choice (or, rarely, when there's an exceptionally good offer) but generally speaking I don't like the DRM, I don't like their terms and conditions and I don't really like using IM.

Steam is cheap and easily accessible, and thus I purchase their stuff. I buy stuff from GOG as well, but I don't have anything against Steam and I won't think twice before getting something I'd consider a bargain from them.

Love Steam, i love the fact that there is a platform for PC now, not just random crap everywhere. And by crap i dont mean low quality, i just stuff, lol. Before I DL any games on PC, I always check if its on steam first, then if it is, i get it there.

Of all different DRM-options Steam is the best one. Or maybe better way to say it would "least bad". Provides quick downloads and good management for your game collection. Benefits outweigh limitations.

Naturally DRM-free would be the best option but that's a dying breed. Onlya few follow this philosophy, most notably CD Project Red.

Considering all the games published by Bethesda Softworks since 2009 actually require Steam, I think it's fair to say that the vast majority of people here who are PC gamers, have a Steam account.

I often buy games that don't use Steam since I like to buy old games in their original packaging. Mount & Blade is on Steam, but the disc version just uses a CD Key that can only be registered a few times per month. I don't really hate Steam, but do prefer buying my games in boxes. I will use Steam sometimes and have bought games off it plenty, but still just prefer opening a box, putting a disk in a disk tray, and listening to the svcker spin as I game.

I do have a used copy of the HD version of the first Serious Sam game. Since it is a version from India, I am keeping it just because I've started adding a sub-collection to my game collection. That sub-collection is games with foreign ratings as long as they have English as a language choice. Steam is, sadly, the only way to get the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat while avoiding the horrid thing known as SecuROM. I refuse to let such poison be near me even if the game is good, so I'll just get it off Steam instead when I get a better computer.

These two here. As for DRM stuff, I haven't had issues with it, certainly not a giant memory and speed hog like Origin (seriously, Origin was more like a giant data mining virus than anything resembling Steam), and the -25% to -75% off Steam Deals vastly outweigh anything.

I pretty much use steam on a consistent basis. The DRM thing doesn't bother me that much, as long as steam keeps their servers up and whatnot, it probably will never affect all of us. I've heard a lot of crazy conspiracy theories about valve banning people for no reason but I honestly think that's just ridiculous. Most of them are probably lying and being sore about being caught cheating. Regardless, if you just play the games nothing is really going to happen.

Are you the guy with no picture? I highly doubt it so I didn't add you. I searched "The Tallest" and that was the only one I found with that exact name

I would recommend it  you'll probably get more friend requests with a more fleshed out account.
