Who tried starting new game after the patch? If you did, tell your game time of the new file and if you experienced the lag bug again (if you had it).

I started again, not far in enough to experience lag yet though. Occasional framerate dips already mind you.

Was it with a fresh install? (backing up your old saves on an external hard drive and such)

I'll tell you who tried starting a new game - pretty much nobody. The problem was that Bethesda announced that you wouldn't need to restart the game, which was a mistake on their part. There's so many variables in the variety of unique user saves that there's really no way they could have guaranteed that absolutely nobody would need to start the game from scratch to get away from the issues.

I started a new game last night after playing my first for 90+hours. First game save file was about 9mb and was just starting to get serious lag. After patch I deleted ALL Skyrim files and disabled internet and did a fresh install. I am now only about 4hours in save file size around 2.5mb. Turned all auto saves off and saved maybe twice with save size growing each time by only a few kb's. I know I'm not that far in but I have already noticed smoother gameplay. On A side note I am also hearing dialogue from NPC's I had not heard before (especially at execution scene at beginning of game. Will post more after some extended play.

I don't understand why people keep saying "I started a new game and now it works -- the lag is gone!!"

How do you know the lag is gone for good? Of course it's not going to be as bad on a new game with 1/10 the save file size... what happens when your new save file gets large in size like the last one, how do you know it won't lag to hell again? There hasn't been enough time since the patch launched to play a new file long enough to test this...

Some people pre-patch were seeing the lag problem pretty much right off the bat even in a brand new game.

Ah, where there's still the possibility that, post patch, save files won't lag until they get large enough (this was what some people were experiencing before), which would svck for the people who started all over only to get that lag back again later on.

The first question should be: Who started a new game after installing the patch and has a save file greater tha 6MB?
For those that have this, the second question should be: What is your experience related to lag, frame drops, visuals, bugs, glitches?

I started a new game, after reinstalling the game and patches. And after a couple of hours I found out that simple stuff like the treasure maps don't work anymore, found some randomly spawned dead imperial soldiers just suspended in mid air, broken dragon and my house still not working. Then I deleted my save and just gave up. Not even going to bother trying anymore.

I will prolly sell the game and buy it again second hand after a couple of months.

The worst thing about it is, I love the game

You DO realize slight framerate dips when the ps3 is autosaving (like right after a fast travel or entering a new area) are NORMAL right? You cant really count that as a framerate drop. Its just busy saving, so it seems like a framerate drop.

I had about 2 game hours of lag free play on my 90 hour character, then the save file started growing again and the lag started back up.. so...

I started a new guy to see. I am not far enough to know anything yet, but to answer the question...

Forced Save at creation is 2790

and then my first save for a character is at the first stones on the way to Riverwood and that one is 2894.

There is no good answer for this problem. It's here to stay, so you just have to live with it or quit playing. Bethesda will not ever fix it. They just are not able to do so.

P.S. a better way to check lag on a newer character is to ride the wagon and discover all the towns and enter them. This will build the load up on you. The size of your save file doesn't really do anyting unless you build up the memory load during a play session.. all at once without restarting the game. That's what the memory load is. It just gets there faster when your save file is bigger.

My save file hasnt gotten any bigger really cause i auto save i noticed manually saving makes the save file grow alot faster eg. It auto saved when i entered a dungeon save file size was 2568 i wrote that down loaded my old file right before i entered and when i got in i manually saved and it was at 2693 my save file before either of these was 2504 s

There is no input from the player when it autosaves the first time, right before you make character choices. It's just a long cut scene. Nothing I do could make it bigger or smaller, The Prisoner save on mine is 2955. If yours is significantly different, I can't tell you why.

Perhaps it's something to do with options settings or your ps3 settings. I have no clue.
