Why is Alduin in two PS4 trailers?

Post » Fri Nov 22, 2013 10:43 pm

Apologies if this has been discussed already on the forums; I did a quick search but it seems to have gone unnoticed.

Alduin is clearly spotted in two trailers for the PS4.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdW1OuZ1U0 Here he is clear as anything, hovering in the sky at the end of the trailer. Look at the way he flies, the horns on his head, his black spikes, etc. It is undeniably Alduin.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dR28fXFDMI In this trailer he is less obvious, but still not exactly sly as such. From 0:22 onwards, you can clearly see him poke his head around a corner.

Why exactly is Alduin in two PS4 trailers? Could this be a hint at a next gen reboot of Skyrim?

(I was going to ask if you also thought it was Alduin, but that really isn't even up for debate)

I'm guessing that he’s there because Skyrim is a very popular game on the PS3. He and the Dragonborn from the trailers are the two most associated aspects to Skyrim, we see them and we know what they are from. Just them going "Hey you liked that game or you know someone that liked that game, Playstation has that game."

Thought this a possibility, but look at the first trailer. Why would Sony allocate Alduin such a centerpiece role at the end of the trailer when its primary purpose was to reveal the PS4. Alduin gets more attention than any of their launch titles characters, really. Seems strange for a simple 'look at this character from a (broken anyway) PS3 game you can still buy' to take precedence in a trailer for a new console.

I mean, the trailer closes with the camera panning to Alduin. He may as well have a massive arrow pointing towards him.

Maybe Bethesda's going to make a version of Skyrim that's actually stable on a Sony console?

I'm more surprised that Parappa the Rapper is in a PS4 trailer...

They're probably just there to stand for ESO. Maybe it could be a newgen LE to redeem TES on the PS systems.

- Both trailers are packed full of many cameos from all sorts of games.
- Skyrim is very popular.
- Dragons are awesome, and they look good in commercials. (to get people excited)

After watching the trailer, I can't help but feel you're reading a bit into it. Alduin doesn't play a significant role in the clip, he just breathes fire and flies off camera. Perhaps if he flew at the camera rather than exit right then you could argue there's a larger meaning behind it.

Not entirely sure why this has been moved to Community Discussion. A topic about Skyrim's antagonist and the possibility of a next gen Skyrim. But okay.

They're showing the history of Playstation, which is weird considering that TES isn't known for being primarily a Playstation game.

As well as the fact that Skyrim is hardly even playable on PS3. Strange that they would even dare mention Skyrim in a trailer after how much frustration it bought to a massive portion of their users.

The better question is why the beginning of the first video sounds like something a anarchic rebellion group would use to recruit people.

Didn't stop them from putting Big Daddy into that Super smash bros rip-off game sony did awhile ago.

The beginning of the first video sounds more referencing skyrim to me because your character is far from ordinary and quite literally a legend in the making if not already killing alduin. As much as I want a PC port of skyrim with that HD models mod or whatever that makes your character look super amazing, bethesda has clearly moved on. Using alduin in a stand in for ESO is plausible but there's not going to be dragons, greybeards or shouts in the ESO so it's a bit dumb to have him a central bit in both trailers, I mean in the second trailer he comes pretty close to the camera too. Who knows though, i'd suggest not expect any sort of skyrim ps4 version unless you can just install the main one on PS4 and use your ps3 disc to play.

I agree with Pluto who mentioned above that it is likely due to the popularity of Skyrim.
