Why are all the female Nords taller than the male Nords?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 7:40 am

I'm a male Nord and I find that my big burly great sword wielding dragon born is shorter than ALL the female nords by about 4 inches. What the hell??? All the female Nords are taller than ALL the male Nords... What the hell???? Men are taller than women are, bethesda. Thanks a lot... Now I'm going to have to marry an imperial chick.

It seems someone feels a bit insecure.
I find the race heights rather unusual this time around personally, I recall Nords being the second tallest race in Tamriel with Orcs barely below them, now the male Nords are shorter than Orcs.

Nords taller then Imperials and Bretons. But bretons and imperials have better looking faces. And 50% frost resissance compare to Breton 25% magic resist is not big deal since npcs using shocks and fire mostly

Why does everyone have to be sarcastic like the OP is insecure or whatever. I'm 6'2" and dutch (close to nord in RL as possible and far from insecure) and this bothers me. Very few woman in the world are as tall as me and I'm just an average dutch height. It is unrealistic that women are taller than men in the game. Totally unrealistic. Doesn't bother me cause I play in first person but a couple times was WTF when I noticed this.

It's from a few too many blows to the head.

Really shortens the spinal cord.

They are not taller than you.

It's just that first person camera is at neck level and everyone seems taller.

Same here. She looks like a child compared to everyone else. At most, she looks about 18.

Well, I did plan for her to look like that, so it was a bit of luck and me tweaking the character gen.

They're not, most of them are the same height.

Breton males are as tall as Imperials though.

Yeah it seems that way for me too. I am taller or just as tall as the nord chicks around whiterun. Eye to eye with Aelia the Huntress and eye to eye with that [censored] in the inn that likes to brawl. Khajiit are very tall I have noticed. Kharto or whatever is a very tall Khajiit.

I never got the thing about Bretons being small; I'm almost certain I've read about them in Skyrim saying they're tall :S

The tall fair skinned humans.

The thing that made them short, is probably the same thing that started Bethesda making them tanned skinned and brown haired versus earlier pale skinned and dark haired versions.

This could be the 1st person view. In 3rd person my Nord is slightly taller than an orc, but in 1st I'm slightly shorter.

Mechanically in-game both Genders of a race are the same height.

Imperials: 1.00
(Redgards, Dark Elves, Bretons, Argonians, Khajiit in between here)
Nords: 1.03
Orcs: 1.04
High Elves: 1.08

Though in Older games, Orcs are always Shorter than Nords so I don't really get it in Skyrim.
And Nords, High Elves and Orcs have all shrunk as well.

In Morrowind it was...
Imperials: 1.00
Orcs: 1.05
Nords: 1.06
High Elves: 1.10

And in Oblivion:
Wood Elf: M(0.90) F(1.00)
Imperial: M(1.00) F(1.00)
Dark Elf: M(1.00) F(1.00)
Argonian: M(1.03 F(1.00)
Khajiit: M(1.00) F(0.95)
Breton: M(1.00) F(0.95)
Redguard: M(1.03) F(1.00)
Nord: M(1.06) F(1.06)
Orc: M(1.06) F(1.06)
High Elf: M(1.10) F(1.10)

Personally for RP purposes I'm tempted to scale my Nord to the original height.

Ya i got Borkakh the steel heart and I was like all hell no is a female orc gona be taller then me BA dragon born so i used console commands to make me on par with high elf ya it's real dumb this time around they made men (men as in the race nord imperial bretton) all hobits in this game... I remember in oblivion the nords and altmer were pretty much the same now your like 5'5. Breton are the worst there litterally like 5'0 they would need booster seats to drive O.o

Lol i find this thread hilarious. Bunch of dudes trolling about how women arent as tall as men. Get over it, its not like theres no tall girls IRL or something.

They are not taller than you.

Um.. no clearly not.

The PC looks around the 6' mark no matter who you play as, being slightly under for the races scaled slightly under 1.

for the PC to be 5'5 he'd have to be scaled to like 0.9; the same as the male wood elves in Oblivion.

Besides, the scaling mechanic is nonsense; it makes the smaller scaled characters into children, scaling them both vertically and horizontally, as well as lowering your damage output compared to taller characters. If you have the same weight setting as a shorter character you wouldn't be hitting any harder irrespective of you being taller.

On PC, open up the console and type in

player.setscale 1.03 (1 is default)

You can adjust that number to your heart's content, but I foudn 1.03 was the sweet spot so to speak for Nord male scale. Using this maybe unbalance certain animations, such as sitting, using blacksmith forges, etc. The effect in minuscule (your hand might not perfectly align with a handle, your character might be floating very slighty above his seat) but so far I've seen no issues in kill animations.
