Why are Bosmer's Eye Colour Choice "Broken"

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:45 pm

(Howdy Y'all. First off. I am playing on Xbox 360 and thus cannot mod nor do I have any desire to purchase another copy of the game for my PC so I can implement a single mod to correct an issue that should not in my opinion exist in the first place. Thus if you suggest I mod you are being of no help)

After much searching the forums. I'm kinda at a loss to understand a major change to the Bosmer race character creation.

Specifically, Why are the Bosmer's eye colour* choice limited to the exact same eye choices that the Dunmer have? Being the blackened eyes identical to a thrall or pure white eyes of a blind man, or a few redish options and some half blind half not blind eye choices.

There appears to be no lore reason for this choice nor is there any explanation that I can find from Bethesda, which leads me to believe that there is an issue with the character creation function and the wrong eye colour options are associated with that race.

I understand that for PC users there are Mods to correct this issue, but why must it be corrected in the first place?

Lastly, if this was an intentional choice to limit the eye color to only Redish hues then why is there Bosmer NPC's (and Dunmer for that matter) that have alternative eye colour choices? I would really appreciate if someone could logically explain this limitation for player characters and why it was implemented?

Perhaps this belongs in the glitch / bug section.

(*I am Canadian and thus the word Colour is spelled correctly)

It's not a bug, it's just the way Bethesda made it. Seems like they can never "perfect" the Bosmer race. It's like they [censored] up something about them each game. In Morriwind they were short, annoying and ugly, in Oblivion they were short and annoying. In skyrim they are ugly...
I guess they decrease a problem with each game. Don't worry, in ESVI they will be fine. *fingers crossed*

Can't tell if OP is serious or not. He acts like there is some gamebreaking bug here LOL it's working as intended. It's a video game. The eye color choices are great as is.

Bosmer are supposed to look like savages; they were originally cannibals

I see dark amber, dark brown, and black.

Don't see the big deal. Bosmer are supposed to be kind of unnerving.

To clarify,

I do not consider this "game breaking". And I have been playing Elder scrolls since Daggerfall and have enjoyed playing Bosmer's as a sneaky thief type character. I am also aware this is a video game.

Inane commentary is not required nor requested. If you disagree with me that this is either an issue or a very odd design choice then explain why you disagree.

Perhaps my wording was poor. Thier eye colour choices are not EXACTLY the same as the Dunmer but they lack the blue's and green hues found within previous games.

It's a matter of esthetics that could theoretically be applied to all races within the Character Creation process of Skyrim. The eye colour and appearance choices are far more limited than previous games. That is the foundation of my argument. Period.

I spent a bit of time playing with eye textures, and while a couple of the bosmer eyes look reddish, they're actually labelled dark brown and dark purple, while the dunmer eyes are just various shadings of red. I imagine it was meant to give bosmer a more savage, woodland look.

Gotta disagree with you saying the eye color choices are more limited. In Oblivion, you had some barely determinable blue/green/brown for bosmer/humans. I'm sure dunmer and altmer were fixed to one eye color. In Morrowind, you only got to select a face, and I'm pretty sure all the bosmer faces had either the full-black eyes or some sort of dark shade.

Bosmer, according to lore, are supposed to ONLY have pitch black, souless eyes. There's no bug or anything, it's how they are supposed to be.

@freedom fighter121 Since always, the Bosmer devour their fallen enemies and also don't eat or harm any plant life.

Sigh...

Never mind, I'll just keep on playing (not that I stopped at any point). It was just an observation. I should have known better.

Oblivion Bosmer

And yes, I purposefully picked those two NPC's for their annoyance because The responses Ive gotten are equally so.
