So...why are there Thalmor death squads after me?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 6:46 pm

I haven't even done the "In My Time of Need" or accepted the quest to free the prisoner, i just came out on a cave expedition outside Whiterun (a quest you get from random NPC as rumor/tip). I wasn't even close to them so they could have gotten freaked out for that reason, they did attack me from far away with lightning spells...still they had an execution order on me (for what may i ask?).

I love killing them, I have had acouple death squads saying look out for me I am armed and very dangerous. I like going up to the non death sqads ones and talking to them and then shouting in my head I will worship which ever god I want to and then we battle.

Yes it is. Apparently this agent was important to them and maybe in turning her in you interrupted something? We'll never know... :obliviongate:
At first I thought they were after me because I was killing any justicar escorting a prisoner, but it seems I was wrong, I too handed the redguard woman over, no problem though, I'll give Thalmor a reason to come after me anytime, they are useless for loot but great for leveling sword and board.

Well how about that. This is the first evidence I've read that either party is telling the truth. I always helped the girl since she's cuter than the assassins. It's unfortunate that after helping her in her quest she isn't a spouse option.

With this evidence I now feel kinda bad that I always kill the hired assassins.

I have a burning hatred for the thalmor, my homeland, valenwood, is occupied by them for talos sake! Id much rather have the empire ruling over us then having the thalmor rule us, and exterminate the humans.

I can't say I'm unhappy with the dominion in Elsweyr... the empire wasn't exactly a benign or benevolent overlord. Perhaps there's a lack of lore documentation, but the worst the Aldmeri dominion seems to have done to the khajiit is lied their pants off about the moons dissapearing, and that ultimately only served to get the khajiit to finally flip the birdy to their imperial overlords and hug a woodelf for the first time since the five year war.

...this is a bad thing?

I wish I could remember who, but one NPC in the game talks about the "purges" the Thalmor conducted in Summerset and Valenwood.

So Thalmor are likely pro-Mer only when the Mer in question align with Thalmor ideology. When Mer don't agree with Thalmor ideology, they are no better than Men, and therefore expendable. That kind of power structure breeds paranoia, so its small wonder Altmer and Bosmer characters find themselves downrange of Thalmor spells, even if they're Thalmor loyalists.

I'm just wondering if those who got the hit squards with the note for your head, ever came across a talos shrine with dead bodies around it, maybe looted a thalmor set of gear elsewhere.
Really early into a new game, done unbound and the golden claw and thats it, but I did go to the shrine by helgen and looted the bodies, maybe thats a trigger, either looting thier robes triggers the script in confusion or maybe you're meant to be seen leaving the area.

Didn't you deal with a certain Redguard woman some Redguard men were looking for? You got the quest just after killing your first dragon and getting back to Whiterun.

No, this isn't it, because when I encountered the Thalmor, I hadn't done this quest yet.

i found it funny that, as a high elf, they still wanted to kill me on-sight. i met the traveling thalmor embassy guys fairly early on (before i even did the main quest, civil war, or redguard chick's quests) and they still wanted to kill me.

skyrim is not a game meant to be played by elves apparently...
This is very intriguing. My Nord also hasn't begun the main quest/civil war story lines as yet. He met both Redguard female and the Embassy guys while adventuring on the road. But the Embassy guys were never hostile during that encounter. They only asked whether I'd seen a Redguard female spy. I declined to answer, since I was on a Thieves Guild quest and didn't want to start/break any miscellaneous quests or faction side quests. I wonder if this difference in NPC reaction had something to do with race the way it was in Oblivion? With you being an Altmer High Elf vs my Nord? Hmmm. Most fascinating.....

It seems that they recognize if you have the Talos Blessing or neckles on, if you do they attack you....not 100% sure tho.

I have not done the quest with a certain Redguard dealing with some very cool looking dudes in turbans carrying curved swords. But I did sneak into a Thalmar fortress and stronghold and acted with a certain degree of indiscretion against the Thalmar forces occupying said fortress, all in an attempt to help out a particular family. After doing said raid Thalmar hunters came after me, I am pretty sure there is a specific number of anti thalmar quests before they come after you.

Related question, is it possible to ally with the Thalmor? I'm playing as an Altmer, seen only one Thalmor dude (the one at mage college) and they seem like my kinda people :P

@ Pistolero
You can find the boss Thalmor in the Dwemer undergrond keep where the Jarl is located in Markarath.

Till we get the cs, I'll take the Prima guide's word for it (pg 410). It's a random encounter that can occur to anybody.

Random events are nice touches that add life to the world but this is just ridiculous, nearly every humaniod encounter is the same. "They attack you just cause", with near identical notes "Some guy you'll never meet or hear about beyond this want characters head", like its not bad enough you wander the world retracing a "friends" (worlds biggest claw collecter) footsteps who was told by a psychic a dragonborn comes so he went round handing out claws to people saying to pass them out if they ever got anyone to help them with thier problems. Placing others in convient places and marking where other word walls are. In fact doesn't that sound vaguely familar to NV, DLC we'll get to meet Ulysses

So much for it being some mystery we could work out.

The game got 2 times better when this started happening for me. I got to kill a dragon and a thalmor death squad in a giant 3 way death dance.
Happened to me once. I was on the south road to Riften when I stumbled upon a couple of wolves. Buggers, I put them down in no time and then a message appears "You've been poisoned": behind me there was a giant frostbite spider! To more swings and the insect goes down as well. I sheathe my sword but the combat music keeps going on... A troll is now charging at me.

At the time of this memorable encounter I was still at level 12 so I turned around and began kiting him around hoping to find some help on the road. Two dead farmers later I finally regain enough health to fight back. The troll finally goes down but the combat music won't stop. During my troll chase I ended up near an Orc stronghold besieged by giants! :cold: One of the big guys is in dire need of a pair of glasses because he turns his back at the stronghold and he charges me instead! :bolt:

Saadia
There's no one in this city I can trust
Only an agent wouldn't be able to find anyone to trust in Whiterun, both sides are Anti-Thalmorian,.
They're only in it for the money, kill the leader and the rest will scatter
Yet they don't, nor do I think it's a bug.

If the guards have one jailed, then the guards can't be bought because he wouldn't be in jail. ;)
