Why are Third Era books in ESO?

Post » Tue Sep 17, 2013 12:40 pm

According to the Elder Scrolls wiki page http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Lusty_Argonian_Maid , if you scroll down to Appearances, the Lusty Argonian Maid book makes an appearance in the Elder Scrolls Online. This book was written by Crassius Curio in the Third Era. And in the setting of the Elder Scrolls Online, Crassius Curio isn't even alive yet.

Why?

Easter egg and fan service to those who played the other games.

Watch them make some crap up again and say Crassius plagiarized it or something.

I'm choosing to view it as an easter egg. I will be very disappointed in the devs if they try to explain it.

In fact I have some other nit picks about the lore in the ESO. Why can Argonians get poisoned?

Called balance. Racials need to be balanced. You can't have Bretons be resistant to 50% to magic. That is too OP and anyone who is smart would be a Breton.

I'd rather play a game that is more accurate to the lore than balanced.

Look at Eternal Crusade for example. The developers mentioned a single Space Marine will be able to kill groups of Orks before dying. Could you imagine one Ork grunt being balanced with a Space Marine? No? Well that's just as bad as Argonians getting poisoned when their most recognized feature is to resist it. They practically live in poison in the Black Marsh.

Game balance is an important thing. If you don't have a balanced multiplayer game then you make an awful game.

Balance is very important in an MMO. Some sacrifices have to be made.

I have to agree on that. As cool as racial bonuses are, they would cause too many problems in an MMO.

If we used the racials as they appear in the single player TES games, pretty much everyone would be a breton. Do you really want that?

Eternal crusade sounds like a crap game. It is no fun to be so underpowered that you need a group just to kill one player just because he chose another race. There is a reason the TT Warhammer 40k has rule relegating how many units you can bring and point costs for those units. You can't do that really when each unit is player controlled.

Very much so this, some sacrifices need to be made, and it's the reality of a MMO. Try and stick with the single player series if this level of lore changing bothers you, as you'll find innumerable small things to be nit-picky, I've learned to live and let go.

The being weak thing only applies to F2P, and you can only be a Shoota Boy or Slugga Boy if you don't buy the game. But it's accurate to the lore and I appreciate how the devs are handling it. I've seen them being praised for this decision until I went to this forum.

Another reason why Eternal Crusade is already horrid. They are blatantly making it pay 2 win. I love Warhammer 40k, but to me this is a horrid decision. THey could have you know, not made it pay to win and made Ork Player get to be Nobs or other stronger Orks.

I feel that the fact that it even exists in the game is disappointing.

Whether it's there as an easter egg or they explain it (or both?), it's still ridiculous. I don't even care anymore. The gameplay's solid enough; I'll just treat this game as the delirious dream of a dying Nord boy on the streets of Windhelm instead of a legit entry in the series.

Fully agree with you on this one.

As for the books I would say either easter eggs or devs are being lazzy and not writing up new ones.

So, normally, I'd be all mad about lore inconsistencies...

...but in this particular case, I think this is actually a perfect solution. Don't tell me Uncle Crassius wouldn't have done it.
