Why aren't the folks at Zenimax Online introducing themselve

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:43 am

I feel that as a completely new studio people know nothing of, and so they can't judge them based on any of their previous works, should introduce themselves to their potentional customers, tell them who they are, speak about their plans in general and with the game, start a conversation. Folks would probably more interested in the product, if they knew, who the guys doing it were.Even more so If they're working on a franchise people know and love.

It may be a bit soon for this, the game's just been announced, but Zenimax Online seems to be reclusive, and leave all this to Bethesda Softworks.I for one sure would like to see who the guys making the game are, and not hearing everything through a middleman

As I said, they may not have found an appropiate time for this, and I can accept f they don't want to at all, but It seems that most of the issues the community has with the game are related to not knowing whoever the developers are, and If they can be trusted with our beloved franchise.

I agree, mostly. Not because I believe they have to, but because I believe it would help and would just be neat, really.

I suspect we'll hear more when the permanent/proper community site for the game is up and running.

Jup, I'm really looking forward to a "meet the devs" for TESO. Is there anything planned like this? Maybe when the real forums launch? GStaff might know.

Why should they? Let them wait it out a couple weeks, until after E3, and most of the rude posters will be back in the Skyrim forum. I wouldn't come anywhere near this cess pool yet if I were them.

Yeah, let's get them to announce themselves so we can start judging them right away!

I think they have some kinda big deal with Game Informer - they aren't allowed to release info before GI's big exclusive article officially hits the shelves. I bet they are afraid we will clamor for info and spam their inboxes with questions if they introduce themselves now before they can release any details.

It's only the second day. Maybe they'll have something planned soon!

That said, I know of one member of the team already (I'm pretty sure he's with Zenimax Online anyway) and that's Chris L'Etoile. He worked for Bioware before - specifically, with the Mass Effect series.

I hope so.
I've never seen any game announcement get this many negative comments across so many websites. Maybe it will have an effect.

A mod should open "Meet the devs" thread series and we see what happens if they come.

That's a slight possiblity, yes.
But that's how it works, really. Even BGS gets bashed for changes in the ES games, a completely new studio making a spinoff in a different genre sure makes a lot of people think that their game is ruined forever.
I just hope they'll try to communicate with us, for that's better than holding aloof.

If they cannot handle this negativity before they release an MMO, they are not qualified to handle it when it does arrive.

You do realize by choosing these words that you are the very poster you're talking about?

They're probably still scanning the feedback to address popular concerns, E3 is right around the corner, there's still time to develop new marketing strategies.
It would be naive to say they wouldn't be expecting this kind of backlash and resistance from TES fans this early, especially for a company with no track record (excluding individual careeers).

When they choose to finally show up, it will probably be with something meaty to show in order to diverge attention from the main criticisms (like great soundtrack, recognizable places and nods to TES fans).

Yes. I'm sure that a bunch of people commenting on something after seeing a few screenshots and reading a vague preview will have more of an effect than 5 years of development. Because that's how things work.

Yes, An Excerpt from the GI article page 18.
"The Elder Scrolls Online is going to face alot of criticism from fans of the franchise who don't care for MMOs..."

They know what they are in for. I hope they have the balls to prove to us that this MMO is not a mistake.

Because that's their job. Proving to you that they haven't made a mistake.

It isn't creating a good game that lots of people want to play. It's coming up with ways to make you, personally, feel attended to.

Because Bethesda Softworks is publishing the game. They do this with every game the publish. Did you ask this question when they advertised Rage? What about Dishonored?

Their blog is for Bethesda Softworks titles. This forum is for Bethesda Softworks titles. Not Bethesda Game Studios.

Possibly because this is a temp forum and not the "official" forums for the game.

Yes it is. Because he is their target audience- a player who has already spent money on this title. Therefore, he is their potential customer, and it IS their job to prove to him that they are making a product worth that investment.

All they can do is make a good game. They won't (and can't) focus on winning over people who have an unfounded bias against them after they've merely announced the existence of the project.

And since he hasn't spent money on a single title from this developer, he is just as much a potential customer as anyone else. They aren't obligated to make him (or anyone who had a kneejerk negative reaction to the announcement) feel better.

The only reason for using the TES name is because it has an established fanbase they want to get their share of.

I didn't mean they should be catering to the forumers/long time fans , just speak to the general audience of their game. Community feedback is a crucial to the developers of any game, even more to developers of MMO games, and I think they should start building a community for their game as soon as they can.
If I want to be all business, I can safely say that sympathy is one of the biggest selling points of any product.

Besides, don't you want to get know the people that bring you the game? The Skyrim Meet the devs topics were immensely popular, even though only a few of developers showed up.
