Why Aren't There More Games In The Series?

This is a bit of a rant, and I apologize for that.

I just created a profile to ask this very simple question: Where are the follow-ups? Why were the other scheduled games cancelled? I mean, this is a great game. Fantastic, even. I haven't yet beaten it, as the last time I played I got stuck on a windy bridge section, but I have played more than enough to know that the game was truly successful at making the Mythos come alive. I have oft wondered why the game has been largely forgotten by the gaming community at large. With the popularity of the Dead Space franchise, Amnesia: Dark Descent, and Slender, I think the market is quite favorable for a follow-up (or remake- I'm not picky). With better graphics, textures, and lighting, and a few tweaks here and there, Call of Cthulhu could become a AAA franchise, a real heavy hitter. Personally, I would love to see a new entry using the beautiful oil painting style of Dishonored. I would also like some way of seeing what you are about to interact with (for example, the deadbolts in Attack of the Fishmen), and a checkpoint system before timed events (like Attack of the Fishmen) that doesn't force you to watch the same five minute cutscene every time you die. I would also like to point out that we are on the verge of a new console cycle, which is a fantastic time to reintroduce the franchise.

Mostly agreed. It could be successful in the same vein as Dark Souls, but for AssCreed or Batman level of popularity it would have to be dumbed down and casualized. As for the cutscene problem, you'd only need the ability to skip cutscenes.

Also, no highlighting of interactive objects is a good thing.
