Why is assigning items to left and right hand backward

Post » Fri May 25, 2012 3:28 pm

I'm playing the PC version of Skyrim.

If I want to equip an item to my LEFT hand I must click the RIGHT mouse button. If I want ot equip an item to my RIGHT hand I must click the LEFT mouse button.

Same thing in game...

If I want to use what is in my LEFT hand I must click the RIGHT mouse button. If I want to use what is in my RIGHT hand I must click the LEFT mouse button.

Is there a reason for this that escapes me and can it be changed somewhere in the controls menu or ini settings (haven't found it)? This turns my dyslexia on its head.

I think you can change this through your key bindings. Just click the opposite mouse button of whatever it's currently assigned to!?

I'd guess it's a carry-over from the previous games. (Left button = attack; Right button = block)

And the general "right-hand = prime" thing that the world tends to go for.

Primary button-finger combo on the mouse is pointer finger & left mouse button. "Primary" hand is right. So clicking the left button runs the right hand. It makes more sense when you're playing sword & board, since the shield (right button=block in the old system) can only go into the left hand. Gets more confusing when you're using a dual-wield combo of some kind.

All I can think is, that naturally most people click the left mouse button more times and use it for attacking, hence the "sword hand" is also the left mouse button for attack and the right mouse button is for blocking. It looks confusing while looking at the game, but at the end most people start hammering the left mouse button for attacking, if they are used to PC FPS games.

Dark Atronach had it right - you can swap your mouse buttons in the controls settings. Somehow I overlooked it.

Thanks for all the other tips. They do make sense. It's just in this game with the whole idea that what is in your left hand is LEFT and what is in your RIGHT hand is RIGHT, it makes more sense to me for the mouse to work in tandum.
