Why bethesda WHY!

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:54 am

Whilst im not going to go all out mad about this. My immediate opinion is a bad one.
Ok so whilst i dont think having an mmo is all that bad. Its just , this is elder scrolls. and the bad part about it is that i believe it will ruin the future of the single player franchise. just think, the elder scrolls 6 comes out. But we will already know the province that it is based in because we will have played the mmo. And before you say "just dont play the mmo". having zenimax make the province will restrict bethesda's creativity and therefore might make a worse atmosphere.

These are just my opinions and what i believe is zenimax should have made an mmo based on the elder scrolls gameplay and not on the setting. And even if they put the mmo in akavir that would be pretty damn cool. But to late. they have already been working on it for 4 or so years.

Sadly it's not a bad dream and I feel your pain. Maybe if every single person not liking this made an thread like this xD I'm sure the mods would be very very very busy!

I completely agree that this will restrict bethesda's creativity. One solution. This game is a dream/not cannon

Fun fact: The Elder Scrolls Online is all Zenimax Online Studio's doing, Bethesda Game Studios has nothing to do with it.

Fun fact 2: They are owned by teh same company. One fails, the other suffers.
Fun fact 3: The two games share universe. What one does good or bad will affect the others marketing value and if buisness is bad, remove the one making least revenue.

I'm not buying the creativity restriction. TES series has been around for 20 years! that's half a lifetime! SIngle player series > mmo in any circumstance, Zenimax is aware of that if they care about their fanbase (=money). So Bethesda Game Studios will NEVER be dominated by the mmo lore and /or visuals in any conceivable way. It doesn't make sense.

Let's think about this this way: the mmo has to be huge and playable on low end computers. That means low graphics. much lower than Skyrim or even Oblivion. The provinces in mmo will look visually poor compared to single player, and when they make the next TES single player (let's say Black Marsh, 2016) they will make it bigger and much more detailed than it appears in the MMO, with much more vegetation, creatures, underwater predators and caves, subraces, etc etc. It's like the difference between a tv series made after a book. The series will never be as detailed and complex as the book. In our case the book is the single player series.

Fallout 3 was BGS and New Vegas was Obsidian, and they both did fine.

They did fine which is why it didnt hurt the trademark. MMO games often fail if TES MMO fails then people will remember the name TES and the original single player TES will suffer.

I just hope they didn't break the bank funding this game.

Your not getting the point. The future of the single player franchise will suffer as there will not be as much mystery and spontaneous-ness about the games as we will have seen the provinces in this MMO.

And to think, I just downloaded DaggerFall the other day and for the last 48 hours have been heavily stuck into that. I was beginning to get some hope back for bethesda as their old games were by far the best. But don't get me wrong i LOVE tes. it is the best series EVER!

Yes this is also my biggest concern. People dont seem to realize that they are owned by the same company. So if that company, Zenimax, loses money then both BGS and ZO will suffer or close down.

Todd Howard is apparently overseeing 'lore' direction. Good olde Toodles is the Game Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda.

Yeah, when this game crashes to the ground I hope Bethesda are not hurt. Though they did rake in the cash when Skyrim came out so at least they have some money there. I really hope they don't have marketing guru's telling them because they shipped x million Skyrim copy's they will have x million people foolish enough to buy the mmo and eat it. I don't wanna be a naysayer... what am I kidding!? I do, I really really do. I don't see this ending well.

The thing is BGS is just and extended arm from Zenimax. If zenimax is low on cahs so is BGS.

I dont see this end well either I'm afraid...
