Why can't we adopt all the children?! :(

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 6:19 pm

I genuinely feel guilty when I can only choose two and have to leave the others alone in a mediocre life. Surely if I can afford it, I should be able to buy rooms for all the adoptable orphans in Skyrim?? :(

I finally adopted 2 kids but I wonder if I can adopt more if I can buy the land in the other 2 areas. As soon as I adopted one kid my husband moved from Riften to the house, I wonder if that means only 2 kids in the game? We can own more than one home, one in each town but what about in the DLC can we own more than one and adopt for each? (hope that makes sense)

I've only been able to adopt 2 kids totall. I have several houses, and a few with childrens rooms and after i adopted 2, any adoption dialog has since dissapeared. I'd like to be able to adopt them all as well. And i think you should be able too if you have room for them.

It was probably implemented to avoid memory problems with too many characters in one worldspace. You can have about 5 npc in a house now. A wife/husband + housecarl + bard and you. When hearthfire will hit the PC's those limitations will be avoided by modding.

I don't think three would break the bank. I mean three kids, you, your spouse, your steward and housecarl, and your follower. That's eight, nice and binary.

I propose an RP solution, I call it my Theory of Multiple Dragonborns. It goes something like this:
1. Each of your characters exists in parallel with the others.
2. Ascribe a given questline to each. Maybe your Altmer was the Guildmaster, for instance, and your Nord the Harbinger, and your Argonian was the Dragonborn.
3. Each one chooses a different house, marries a different spouse, adopts a different child, etc.
4. Result: all kids adopted. :)

You started as a prisoner and became a demigod, the best thing you can do is force them to live a mediocre existence.

Their existences actually range from mediocre to wretched. With Constance in charge, the Honorhall kids have warmth and shelter, and likely receive enough food. Lucia, by comparison, lives on the street begging for septims.

If I ever get my own Hearthfire (watching others play is informative, but unsatisfying), I intend to. Most of 'em, anyway.

fable 3 did it so i see no reason why BGS could not do it
in fable 3 i emptied the orphanage
1 bedroom for each kid and i had several houses
you could own more than one house in the city too
i think i had 16 kids.. you could only have 1 spouse but you would get a
person sort of like a stewart that was there to watch your children in all the other houses
actually fable allowed multiple spouses
but for those that wanted only 1.. you could have a person you paid to care for your kids

I was sorely disappointed to learn two is the max, regardless of the number of homes owned. There are plenty of stewards and I've more than enough gold.

Oh well. It would be rather a small pain in the rear to spend my entire time going from house-to-house to greet them. Perhaps this is for the best. :P

Like Oddish said:
I adopted Lucia first because of this. I had already adopted Samuel from Honorhall before I realized there were more children like Lucia (ie the ones in Dawnstar and Windhelm). Now I feel bad that I can't adopt them too. :(

I think it's more than possible. At least have the option to build your own orphanage!

Considering the amount of dragon bones clogging up the inventory of the average Dragonborn, I think we could construct a palace out of all that. If the kids dont like it, well... I'd love a player home constructed out of dead dragons, as a monument to your char's questionably heroic deeds. It could be this massive tower with whole dragon skeletons attached here and there.

For RPers, you can finance the existing orphanage instead. Just gather up some excess gold, find a spare drawer in Constance's room when the kids are asleep. Then stick 10,000 or so septims into it. For the kids, you can scatter around your extra dollies, wooden swords, kids' outfits you already have, and of course sweetrolls and other pastries.

Yes, Runa, there is a Santa Claus in Skyrim, but he wears Dragonbone armor and carries an enchanted battle-axe.

Ho ho ho, you lizard ************s

I wish there would be a normal way to give money to orphanage, be kind of more immersive. Then again, there's tons of stuff the game could use to be more immersive. In regards to hearthfire though... I think it just needs more dialogue, and of course more house customizations. Why not 2 towers? Or allowing us to change the placement of the furniture.

It would be easy, really. Just add a few lines of dialogue with Constance.

DRAGONBORN: "I'd can't adopt a child, but I'd like to donate money to the orphanage."

CONSTANCE: "That would be wonderful. We're always short of resources, and there are so many needy children. How much would you like to give?"

DRAGONBORN: [Choices]
Actually, I can't donate anything right now.
500 Gold
1000 Gold
5000 Gold

CONSTANCE (500 or 1000): "Thank you so much. You've made the lives of these children so much better."
(5000): "What?! You're serious! I... I don't know what to say! Thank you so much!"

Donations registed automatically in the form of upgrades to the building and grounds: sweets, toys, extra clothes, and other things appear in and around the building as a result.

And I don't know what "lizard ************" means, since none of my characters happen to be Argonian.
