Why can't we destroy the evil Thieves Guild?

Post » Sat Feb 02, 2013 10:11 am

I don't understand why Beth gave us an option to join this group, but not an option to put a stop to its evil ways.

I'm sure some of us skyrim players are not tempted by Brynjolf, and rp characters who are for the most part, good characters, characters who are against stealing perhaps.

So why then can't we have an option that can somehow lead to bringing the guild to Justice?

If there is an evil path, why not a good one?

What do you think?

Do you think it would be a good idea for Beth to make the whole bringing the guild to justice idea, as future DLC?

Basically because the Thieves Guild is not inherently evil. The Dark Brotherhood is a Death Cult that deals in assassinations and has been hunted into near extinction. The Thieves Guild has been around literally for centuries in one form or another, and basically is TES' allegory to Organized Crime. No matter how righteous the crusader, you're never going to be able to stop two enterprising criminals from pooling resources - especially not with the backers the Thieves Guild has. Both Mortal and...not.

There aren't "evil" alternatives for the Companions (who I wouldn't argue are good in the first place, but that's besides the point) or the College of Winterhold.

Riften's the closest thing we have to a pre-Batman Gotham City. The cops are all bribed, and a mob boss is running the show, and while you may be able to Shout and all that goodstuff, let's be honest. You're no Batman.

As for DLC, I wouldn't mind them adding the option, so long as they expanded on the TG (and other guilds), and gave them more to do than we currently have as well. I want to pull off exciting heists and rob castles and museums and whatnot, not rob the local jeweler.

I'd love an expanded Companions quest that was more then just a vehicle to become a Lycanthrope.

At the onset of the game the Thieves Guild is already destroyed, their power even in Riften is gone they can't even intimidate shopkeepers into paying them money without your help. So unless your plan is to murder them there isn't anything you could do to bring them lower.

I'd like a larger variety of jobs. Say one of the small towns is going to be raided by bandits so the companions come to the rescue. Rather then just attacking them in hideouts.

Oh, like.. robbing the Imperial Palace for an Elder Scroll? I concur.

I think the reason they didn't allow you to destroy the Thieves' Guild, was because it was all but destroyed anyway. Without the odd job and some support from Maven, they wouldn't even exist in Skyrim. I wish you could just go down and slaughter everyone in there, end the Thieves' Guild and start a crusade to purify Skyrim (not something Batman would do, mind you, because he doesn't kill.. ever. Even when it means sacrificing civilian lives so he doesn't directly kill)

Yes they are, they are a bunch of crooks who steal things that don't belong to them.

That's like saying the Mafia or any other real world organized crime group isn't evil.

Just because they are not going around murdering people, doesn't make there actions right and somehow not evil.
