Why can't our characters be unique?

Post » Tue Oct 30, 2012 1:30 pm

There's nothing special about our character. Serana and valericia get unique hairstyles and they are vampires that aren't ugly. Karliah gets purple eyes. Elenwen gets a unique voice. Nocturnal, psjiics, and grey beards get unique outfits. But the dovakhin Is like any other generic npc. Why can't we get unique eye colors or hair styles or cool outfits?

Two words: Daedric Artifacts. Also, Falmer Armor. Also, Dragonbone/Dragonscale Armor.

None of those are used by more than (maybe) one NPC.

Because there are PC mods for that if you are really that picky. Also, you dont need that stuff to make a unique looking character.

Also, y'know, the whole Shouting thing...and absorbing the souls of Dragons...that might not be unique dialogue/clothing, but it sure makes the Dovakiin Unique...

I don't want access to Greybeard robes unless my character becomes a Greybeard. The robes are one of the little touches that set Greybeards apart from other NPCs (and my character). If we can get Greybeard robes off the rack at K-Mart it dimishes the spectacle when we enter the Greybeard's presence.

I'm less concerned about eye color and hairstyle, though they could probably be defended on the same grounds. Bethesda has always given a few selected NPCs special appearances (such as Queen Barenziah in Morrowind). I think they do this for storytelling reasons, but hairs and eye color are less important and I wouldn't object to these features being available for the player character too.

Facepalmed...sooo hard.

Don't you understand? Those things about those npc's ARE what makes them unique. If we were able to use them, then the special touch from those characters would disappear.

Personally I don't want access to Greybeard robes unless there is a solid reason fo it (i.e. my character actually becomes a Greybeard). The robes are one of the little touches that set Greybeards apart from other NPCs and my character. That makes me wonder....how does a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Blasphemous_Priest get his hand on robes like that?

Yeah, mine are too. So what if some NPCs have features we can't get? Touches like this only add (much-needed) diversity to the entire game.

He performed a Black Sacrament. There used to be five Greybeards.

I'm gonna soon attempt to make a tribal Nagas Argonian from Black Marsh. He'll be unique too.
