Why cannot I adopt children?

Post » Thu Aug 01, 2013 12:27 am

Hello!

HELP! I cannot adopt children in Skyrim.

1) I have the "Legendary Edition" which contains all DLCs.
2) I resolved all mainquests of the following factions: Companions, College of Winterhold, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Imperial Legion and Dawnguard
3) I bought a house in Whiterun
4) I have the letter for the Riften orphanage
5) I am not a vampire nor a werewolf

How come that I cannot adopt children?

Saludos
Patrick

You bought the house in Whiterun I understand. Did you marry someone and if you did where does your spouse currently reside? If they reside in any place other than the house then you can't adopt. Also did you buy the alchemy room for Breezehome or did you buy the child's room? That might be another reason you can't adopt.

Have you added a children's room to Breezehome? It replaces the Alchemy set on the ground floor. Without a children's room in one of your houses you can't adopt. Return to the jarl's stewrad and change the room.

Edit: Or add it if you haven't bought the alchemy upgrade.

does your house in Whiterun have a child bedroom? If it does not you will be unable to adopt a child because they have no place to sleep.

I also kind of forgot that adopting children forces your spouse to move to the house in question so please ignore that part.

Another question: I think I bought the alchemy room. Can I replace it with the childs room?

One of my followers is Selena. How can I make her marry me?

I think you mean Serana right?

You can change the room.

You can't marry Serana. Don't count on there being a patch either.

Why would you want to marry someone who would view your neck as a midnight snack?

Just because you are a seasoned and well armed hero who can shout dragons out of the sky
doesn't mean your going to make a good parent.
The best parents don't shout.....and you can't hug your kids with THOSE arms......

You need to build a room for the kids first to adopt.

You don't need to have a spouse to adopt.

Be nice to her through the DG questline and she'll heal her vampirism.

How is that an issue? Big Bearded Wizard, I never said you needed a spouse to adopt, you read what I said wrongly there.

He got the note from the orphanage so Grelod is presumably dead.

And even if she wasn't, he'd still be able to adopt street children, they don't go through the orphanage.

But adding the missing room seems to be the solution in this case.

Which is what I plan on anyway. The fact I have a mod that allows me to adopt six means Runa is a shoe-in again and perhaps a boy or two. I'll have to nose around a bit.
