Cause it is their game to develop, change is good, it is 200 years after Oblivion so it makes sense, could be a whole host of reasons.

You mean from Oblivion to Skyrim? Not sure, but I do like the Oblivion variations a bit better for the Imperial Armors!

They have more of a "Roman Empire" look now, and that's probably what Bethesda were aiming for. Imperials also have a noticeable tan as well.

I don't think it's a bad thing that they didn't copy/paste the same armor from Oblivion. I like the current Imperial helmets.

I believe they wanted to go for a more roman look for Skyrim. I don't mind it much myself, though I like the concept of the Morrowind legion more myself.

Are you kidding?

We are talking about two different eras, here.

Armor always looks different in other countries/cultures, and hundreds upon hundreds of years apart.

You honestly prefer the look of legion armor in Oblivion, to Skyrim's version, or are you just wondering why they changed it?

If you hadn't noticed, everything has been changed. Steel is different, irons is different, ebony.. all the way down the list.

Imperial armor is based off of Roman Legion armor.

Roman legion armor changed through the centuries like 100 times, in appearance.

I like the Roman looks they gave them.

I like both. I thought that the almost black imperial watch armour looked pretty intimidating.

Because the Oblivion Imperial armour looked ugly and impractically heavy.

I enjoy the new Skyrim look oddly, reminds me of the Romans and I am sure that was what it was meant to do.
I do wish more NPC's in the legion used heavy armour, as light seems more like a archer or a scout armour to me. When most guards are their to fight face to face, also I have not see many guards use the light armour shield they have in the imperial uniform.

Because in a video game, change is a good thing. Not to mention that it's been 200 years since the Oblivi Crisis.
Although I can't say for certain, I'd wager a guess that Imperial armor changed quite a bit between Morrowind and Oblivion?

Same reason they've changed all the armors from game to game.

My favorite is still the Orcish armor from morrowind.

Oblivion had the worst Imperial armor, that's why.

Because people complained it had to be more like it was in Morrowind. Personally I greatly prefer the Oblivion armor over flat-out roman knock-off look.

Keep in mind that the Morrowind legionaries had the roman look to them, and that took place only a few years before Oblivion.

Oblivion was the exception.

It's a new Imperial Dynasty, the Medes probably prefer Lorica Segmenta and other Roman armour styles to Oblivion's generic Medieval plate armour with a Greek helmet.

Mede didn't just change the armour, he changed the ranks in the Legion too. Compare the Legion's ranks in Morrowind to the ranks in Skyrim. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Imperial_Legion#Imperial_Legion_Ranks -> http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Imperial_Legion#Ranks. The Septims used names that would be more common in a knight order, and the Medes use ranks that are more like the actual Roman Legions.

There weren't any actual Legionaries in Oblivion. There were just IC guards and highway patrollers, all imperial males. That's not what the Legion is like at all.

Skyrim and Morrowind show actual combat troops.

If we actually look to Rome as an example the soliders stationed in and around Rome would dress differently then those in the proviences.

It's more in the fashion of Morrowind. I like the uniforms, and when I got one (spoiler??) when I was promoted in the legion I was hoping the armor would be better than what I'd had at the time, but it svcked so I didn't bother wearing it anymore. .

I feel that the less-covered variant in Skyrim is absurd considering it is colder up there. I really dislike wearing the heavy set even for my Legate toon, but in OB that armor was my goal for every heavy armored toon until i could get their preferred gear

Yeah, I'm no fan either. Emperor Titus doesn't dress Roman and the soldiers do. Those men look pretty ridiculous in shorts/skirts, and in the cold weather? Sure. Whatever.

At least in Oblivion they looked respectable. .

I'd prefer the Greek spartan & Roman Legion army to be seen as the older Imperial armour and the later looking Franco-German steel plate knight armours as seen in Oblivion to be the later Imperial armor. I think its healthy to see some development. Like ancient Nord armor alongside the later Nord guard armor and Nord steel plate.

The Spartan / Legionary looking Imperial armor should remain traditional and ceremonial.

I also wonder why Lucien Lachance wears Skyrim′s Dark Brotherhood robes, and not Oblivion′s one... That doesn′t make sense.
