Why did they have to merge TechTv and G4 together to create

Post » Mon Jun 25, 2012 1:50 pm

I would use more offensive language if I could but this post would just get deleted. G4 was a terrible channel when it first began. TechTV was a great channel with lots of informative shows and some funny shows, I loved Unscrewed with Martin Seargent. But then they merged the two channels together and started to slowly cancel all the good TechTv shows while the crappy G4 shows stayed on the air. X Play (formerly Extended Play before that Gamespot TV) became more about comedy than talking about video games.

I saw my first terabyte system on TechTV. They raided together a bunch of 120GB HDs on Screen Savers I think. I do miss that channel. But I'm guessing catering to a small audience of tech savvy people just wasn't cutting it financially.

Pretty sure it was doing well financially, they just got screwed.

However, don't worry, because Leo Laporte (host of Call 4 Help and The Screen Savers) created the TWiT.tv network (This Week in Tech).

He now has a full blown studio in which he records high quality shows, and there are a ton of shows to listen to or watch with great quality Tech TV style content.

This Week in Tech streams live every Sunday (it's streaming live right now if you want to check it out. There are over 2,500 people watching live right now).

Also Chris Pirillo (also of G4) does his LockerGnome Youtube show and Patrick Norton also has his own show.

Put that all together and you have the heart of Tech TV, still going strong.
