Why does everyone have to talk to me?

Post » Mon Aug 06, 2012 5:22 pm

Almost every NPC in the game will start talking to me every time I am near them. Every time I go into the Riverwood Trader they will both thank me - at the same time - for getting their damn claw back. I returned it a month ago, get over it guys, jeez! Sigurd apparently suffers from a rare disorder that compels him to inform me that he works for Belethor at the general goods store. Nazeem hangs around waiting for me to pass him so he can ask me about the frequency of my visits to the Cloud District. Arcadia thinks I look pale. Children run up to me and tell me random facts. Guards who've never seen me before can somehow deduce from my steel plate armor that I'm a master conjurer, and proceed to speak to me about it. If I walk through a crowd, everyone in it will start talking to me.

Can't I just be left alone

If you're on PC you can use the mod http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/746. But instead of disabling them completely it also has the option of reducing the range you need to be in before they greet you, so that only NPCs you actually come really close to talk to you.

The reason that happens is because when the developers wrote the bit of code to do that they were so very pleased with themselves they added it to the game without considering how incredibly annoying and lame it would be.

Just become a vampire in the last stage (lord vamp in dawnguard) walk around in one of the cities and the world will feel a bit more like reality, with people looking suspicious at you and no one knows you.

This, this, a thousand times this. The reduced range version of this mod has saved what's left of my sanity.

But OP, if nobody talked to you. How are you supposeed to know if fur was coming out of your ear? It's nice knowing that you need to trim it.
