Why does Skyrim perform so much better than Oblivion?

Its a bigger game than Oblivion isnt it? unless it isnt...

Because Bethesda is getting more experienced. That coupled with better technology. But to be honest i was just playing the 360 version of oblivion. And in my opinion it has slightly higher FPS.
