Why does it take two weeks for a patch to be certified by SO

Seriously... Bethesda says the patch is ready right now. Why does it take so long for customers to be supported?

Remember, don't count your chicken before they hatch. They never even said it would fix the lag/frame rate issues.

I'd hope they'd be smart enough to fix it. Otherwise, I'm sure a lot of people are going to actually try and sue them.

Im assuming that they have to have their programmers go through the patch very thoroughly to make sure that it doesn't, in some way, negatively effect the PS3 itself in some way. Of course I'm not sure on this its just my guess

Actually they did... Haven't you read the new tweet by Pete Hines? This upcoming patch will fix the PS3 version for a life term or something like that.

Humph. Just like they thoroughly went through the game to make sure it worked the first time around? <_<

Well, if I were to throw out a guess, I'd say Sony has to make sure the patch doesn't mess up their system (the PS3 itself). When the software I work with creates a patch, we don't just throw it out to our customers, we test the heck out of it in a few different environment to make sure that our very wealthy clients don't see their company grind to a halt when the patch goes out. I assume Bethesda does the same thing and then Sony puts it through its own line of work.

The thing is, this isn't the same priority for Sony as it is for Bethesda. Sony has a multitude of game companies that are pushing patches their way (MW3 right now, for example).

Why would Sony test a video game that another company made? The only thing Sony is responsible for are patches put through their system and even then, the patch could screw up the game and all Sony checks for is to make sure it doesn't hurt them.

Well it is a giant game with thousands of variables working at once. Finding every bug in the game pre-release is a pipe dream

I hope it fixes some of the broken quests especially the Markarth Jail one so I can actually finish some quests in that city without being attacked each time i step foot in there from a quest...

Yeah, but the frame rate "bug" is more akin to a giant vicious Honey Badger snarling up at the devs, and the devs just turning a blind eye pretending he will pipe down and leave them alone. <_<

Well, I don't think it's too much to ask that a tester actually plays the game once through on each platform (not just the main quest).

Though, there may have been a last minute patch that actually caused the problem, but considering the advance time before the disc would have been created to going on shelves they had plenty of time to test it and no patch should ever go out without at least the one go through.

I'm not sure if anyone really knows why it takes 2 weeks before the patch is released to customers by Sony. Bethesda has always said it takes up to 2 weeks before a patch is issued. I imagine if next week wasn't the Thanksgiving Holiday we'd see the patch some time next week. I too wanted an expedited release of this patch, so I can see if it fixes things/play the game again, and start over if need be.

Also I doubt if the patch testers are actually testing too see if a patch fixes what it's intending to fix. I'm sure they're just testing it to make sure it doesn't mess with the PS3 software/hardware. Although if you rely on Pete's tweets it sounds like they do, because he mentions he won't say what's in it because some of those things might not be after QA has gotten their hands on it.
