I don't know why, probably because it's harder to create armor for Skyrim since the graphics are better than in Morrowind.

There are already a lot of armor mods out there, for example http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19733 .

Thats not entirely true. Meshes from previous games could be tessellated and reskinned...similar to a project that I will not mention because its not allowed to be talked about.

I was very close to investing a lot of time bringing a lot of Morrowind items in to Skyrim from scratch. (check out the texture mods i have) however..i ran into some technical issues with my copy of 3ds max (as many here know) so I wont be releasing any of the stuff i worked on.

One thing I still plan to do, as its just a simple texture is to reskin an orc stronghold so it looks like a Velothi style building.

Just to be clear, when you say "more armor like Morrowind" are you refering to more armor slots (left and right pauldrons, ect) or different complete sets of armor (Adamantium, Bonemold, ect)?

I assumed the OP meant more types of armor.

Regarding the lower number of armor slots, didn't Bethesda say it was so they could have more NPCs on screen at once or something like that? I thought I read that before, although I'm dubious of it now considering Skyrim isn't exactly extensively populated even with the lower number of armor slots.

That and something about it being visually displeasing to have separate legs from a separate body. Oh wait. I think it was because they used a lot of skirts which meant they could lower the poly count on pants by either making low poly ones that were hidden anyways, or go as far to omit them completely.

Another issue is clipping. I imagine they probably need to ensure most the armor pieces can be worn together without the model from one piece clipping through another armor pieces's model. I've not a made an effort to test it, but the only area I've really noticed clipping is with hoods. Now I'm almost positive clipping is the reason for the decrease in armor slots and the reason we generally only have one set of armor at each tier for each armor type. Clipping isn't tolerated as much today as it was back when Morrowind was released.

Three reasons on all of this.

There are fewer full sets because armor takes a lot longer to make now.

There are not as many slots because of clipping issues.

There are not as many slots because it would be too performance intensive. Having larger 'solid' pieces allows for far greating optimization, and less wear on the game engine.

Please release it? lol I really liked Vvardenfell imports in Oblivion where almost every Morrowind Armor was made from scratch to most closely resemble the original and put into the game.
