Why Don't They Release Dawngaurd On A Proper Game Disc? :-(

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:26 pm

Excuse me? Can anyone give me any helpful advice please?

I've known for a short while about the extra storyline revolving around Dawnguard, and have been playing through much of Skyrim on the X Box 360.
But I've been under the impression for a while that it was only available as DLC for the PC only.... until I read this.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dawnguard

For the X Box 360, it appears this has been available now for at least 4 months and I never knew about that until now.

I would be rather interested in getting this, knowing how much of a massive chunk of Skyrim I've played, and enjoyed every bit of it so far.
But there is one massive problem here for me.

I DON'T HAVE/CAN'T GET ACCESS TO X BOX LIVE.

I went through the setup process at the "Xbox Marketplace" link on that page (thinking there might be some small way into this for me) until it said I would have to get access to my X Box Live account on my console.

For some reason, it just seems impossible to get that kind of setup where I am. *sigh!*
I don't even know what is included to get that setup either.
But I've been told it would be very awkward to accomplish for our household.
And I'm the only person with an X Box console here too.

I'm sure I must not be the only person out there who cannot get X Box Live access either.

In this case, why don't they release Dawnguard on a proper game disc and sell it in stores and on websites like "play.com" for e.g
like they did with Skyrim? I for one would certainly buy it!

In any case, is there anyone out there who knows if there is any way possible for someone like me (in my position) to get access to be able to play Dawnguard for the X Box 360 without having to setup and access a Live Account on my console?

Because making and distributing the disks costs more money then selling it online. The disk may be cheap but shipping it to stores is not. At some point is is probable it will be disrubted on disk for 360 players packaged with two or three other DLC's.

As to why you can't setup xbox live where you live, go [censored] at microsoft.

I don't see why you can't connect to live.

All I did was take a cord and connect it to the internet directly when I had a working xbox lol.

Xbox live isn't available in all countries. I'm presuming thats the OP's issue not that he can't connect his machine to the internet.

Oh alright.

Does xbox sell it's product in those countries or are they typically bought from overseas or something and shipped over?

Not exactly sure, but I think they would make less money.

Thank you for the helpful replies.
First of all, if it isn't very obvious, I'm female btw. Thought my forum name would've made that clear..... perhaps not.
Anyway, it would be nice to referred to as "she" next time please?

Secondly, thank you for the helpful replies.

I'm in the U.K. and I'm quite sure they allow you to setup an X Box Live account here.
The options on my X Box 360 console lead me to set one up at least. (It lists wireless and wired options)
I might have found a way so I can connect a cable from my router to my console, and have bought a new ethernet cable.
I'll try it out when it arrives, though I'm not 100% sure it will work yet.

I don't remember what I was told the last time I asked about setting up X Box Live, (to a very knowledgeable family member)
just that it wouldn't be possible for some reason. But I'll try it out for myself and if it doesn't work, then I would be rather happy to
learn that there will be a distribution of Dawnguard discs sold on the internet (much better if it's cheaper that way) at some point.

I don't suppose anyone has any idea when this might be at all?

GotY edition most likely.
That will probably be the only physical copy and not for a while I'm sure.

As said they will probably release a game of the year edition eventually and it will have all the dlc not just dawnguard but that will mean waiting until they have finished releasing all the DLC. Otherwise I think you are out of luck.

I'm waiting for an ethernet cable which I have ordered, and will give it a try.
Hoping it will work, but if not, I guess I'll wait and keep an eye out for when the "game of the year" edition will arrive.

Actually, I would fully expect them to release a little mini-dlc disk after they launch this next dlc. They did it with Shivering Isles + NotN, they did it with a Fallout 3 dlc in chunks too (Broken Steel + Mothership Zeta and then the other two dlcs bundled). So if I were you, keep an eye out for something like that in your nearest retail store, because I fully expect them to do something like that again.

Also, it may be they are working out bug fixes for the dlc before they launch them? Maybe not, but it would be sure swell of them if they did... O.O

They'll probably release the game of the year edition with all of the bells and whistles like always. Just wait a year.

I'm assuming you don't have wi fi on your Xbox. If you are able to connect your Xbox via ethernet cable to your router than you should be able to access Xbox Live.

Well, they did that on the 360 - true, 'SI' was released as a separate disc for the PS3 (I owned it at one time but it didn't work with my copy of Oblivion - that's a whole another thread) but none of the DLC for 'Fallout 3' was ever released on disc for the PS3 as it was for the 360. I remember around the time the DLC was ready for release on the PS3 that Bethesda said, it wasn't possible to release it on disc and that it would be only available as a download for PS3 users.

They will put it on disc when they release the GOTY edition. Until then they won't. Not enough people would buy it on disc if they released the DLC alone to cover the costs of distribution. Sorry mate.
