The European release of the game does not have the English language track on it. Sorry.

Thats a pretty stupid mistake. Although the game is one of the best out there, you guys did a really poopy job at distributing and selling the game in the correct languages.

So....If I buy the game in the UK, it doesn't have an English track? That's laughable. Epic failure.

No, EU and UK a different versions.
On the UK version you have English and nothing else, on the EU you have everything else except English.
Strange decision as all this does is to encourage cheap UK imports.

mmm...I live in Finland but I don't speak Finnish very well (long story). Should I buy the game from an online UK retailer then?

As far as I know, there is no Finnish translation for Skyrim.
Only French, Spanish, German, Italian. Most likely it's just the UK version with a Finnish manual in Finland.

Great, because as I said, I do not speak Finnish very well...did you actually read my post? ;P

Anyway, just to be sure I think I will order it online.

I know, I did understand your post.
What I meant was, since there is no Finnish translation you'll get most likely the English version in your local stores and don't need to import from the UK.

So there will be no option for getting a English version of the game except importing from UK? That really svcks, i prefer to play games in the original language and i can't understand why you guys didn't give the EU version english.

Wouldn't it be possible to upload a language pack to the psn store, downloadable for free?

This actually seems fair enough to me. None of continetal Europe speak English, it's a fair assumption. It's a bit like us in the UK complaining because we can't get it in German or French?!

Fair maybe. But still annoying.
Most games on the PS3 have just one version for Europe with every language included as there isn't really a need to split between the UK and the rest of Europe.
And it's no space problem either, just 9 of 25GB are filled.
And many prefer english voices for games, even if English isn't their native language.

If you want to play the game in English, the only thing you can do is import the game from an UK online shop.
If just French is the problem, set your PS3 to German.
The game uses your system settings to determine which language is used. If your PS3 is set to a language not supported by the game it just takes the first language available which is in this case French.

EU verison: French, Italian, German, Spanish
UK version: English only

Just curious, is this written on the box, or is this just standard practice that everyone should know this in Europe?

I had this doubt. You mean the American version supports other languages? At least the legend if I put my PS3 to Spanish?

I need to make sure this answer to take my copy.

Thanks and sorry English.

I support this idea. I live in Italy but I'm always used to play in original language. Most of the games come out in english but you guys keep on localising with mediocre results(fallout 3, new vegas). Please do release a language patch, unfortunately I can't enjoy as much I would have if it was in english...

I also like playing a game in its original language, but I have no problem playing it in German. There are only two drawbacks with the current system:

1. The language is linked to the system language and since I set my PS3 system language to english I can only play it in french if i dont change the system language to German. Maybe a Language Chooser on Game Start (like seen for most games developed in Japan) would be a much better choice than forcing a language based on the system language.

2. All the locationnames were tranlated from English to German, but not the Signposts. Which makes it a hell of a lot more difficult to find a specific route to a city. Currently i have to look into the Journal to get the German name of he location i want to reach, roughly translate the name to English and then scan the signpost for a name which roughly matches my translation, which somehow destroys the whole atmosphere.
There a three ways to achieve a satisfiable solution:
First: Dont translate locationnames at all, and since the game is published as Skyrim in Germany, why change the whole location to "Himmelsrand"?
Second: Show a translation at the bottom of the screen which shows the appropriate translation, if the cursor is above a signpost and you are standing near it.
Three: Downloadable english language on PSN to allow gameplay in english.

I'm confused. I have yet to receive the game (will arrive next week). I live in The Netherlands, I play my games in English, my PS3 system is in English. But what language will my game be in? English I hope? Also for Bethesda, you guys really really doing a horrible job on this!

Im happy to see that i am not the only one with that problem, it was a major shock when i startet to play. I am from Germany and i think it′s necessary to explain why this is a big deal.

I really can′t talk for other nations but i can talk for Germany in that matter. For all ppl who didn′t know: German Sync really svckS. That′s why i enjoy any kind of Game, Movie, Series in it′s original languege. To calrify my statement: most voice actors are able to put some feeling and passion in their voice acting, this will draw you into the world and story and make the world more enjoyable. German voice actors feel like they′re just reading the lines... and the ones who try to put some "acting" in it just make it worse. To put it in simple terms: a game that would normally be a 9/10 is easily reduced to 4/10 when the atmosphere is destroyed by terrible voice actors. I′m know many people who think like me, and i′m positive this is a bigger deal than most of you think.... probably most guys don′t go thru the trouble posting in a forum about this. I′m sure that mistake wasn′t made intentionally, and honestly this is the first game i′ve ever encountered this problem...but i think it′s not too tall a order to get a downloadable languege pack or patch that fixes this.

So Bethesda please hear our calls and do something about it!

Or at least tell us that there′s no chance of this happening because i really want to enjoy that game but i won′t if i have to hear that svcky voice acting!

Completely agree with Nightwulfx. The original language are more 'directed' so to speak there is a team giving them assistance and a scene where the voice is implemented. The problem with voice-overs is that they just read the lines. They don't know anything about the game or setting.

It's ridiculous that the rest of Europe can't get an English version.
Does Bethesda really think that we're so close in Europe that everyone knows each others language? :P

I think I'm not alone if I say that I'm expecting to get a fix on this.
