why have I developed a bad case of apathy concerning skyrim?

Come on, you *got to be* kidding, right? So you spent 300 hours looking at waterfalls and plants?

no

I spend most of my time creating new characters to make Skyrim feel more alive because after completing the guild quest lines and the main story there was simply nothing my character could relate himself to. The only thing left to do was look for things that could peek my interest, but to no avail.

Honestly I enjoy watching Skyrim Let's Plays much more than playing it.

You guys serious? You've played over 150 hours with one game alone, and then notice it's getting bland? You know, some people call that "playing so much with the same thing you get sick of it". Take a break, and play it again later.

I played GTA San Andreas for months without taking a break.

I played New Vegas for like half a year consistently with few breaks and still play it on and off and have stuff to do. I still haven't done that Arena thingie in the sewers yet and I still haven't finished the game with Yes Man.

I played Fallout 3 for close to half a year without taking a break and then on and off and managed to reach 800+ hours before I felt like I did with Skyrim after just 200 hours.

That I've been able to play other games for ridiculous amounts of time while with Skyrim I feel... "This".. After just 200 hours means that the problem lies in Skyrim.
Not in that I've been playing it too much. Cause I could play those other games for a craplong time without feeling what I feel for Skyrim. (Or well, I could play Fallout 3 for 800 hours before I felt what I feel for Skyrim. And Fallout 3 apart from it's sideadventures had 17 sidequests, 13 skills and you reached lvl 20/30 with ease)

Hell, I played The Warriors for the PS2 for like 3 to 4 months, I replayed it, I did coop fights with my brother and friends on arena's, I replayed missions, I messed around the streets.
Hell, on that trainyard level where there are gangs and cops running all over the place I managed to spend an entire day just fighting for my life while more and more gangs and cops spawned.

Skyrim though, it has no challenge or reward to keep me interested which these other games had.

The average title these days is a paltry 12-20 hours.
Who says we buy the "average titles"?
I haven't bought any games this year or the last year that I just spent 12 to 20 hours in.
