Why haven't Dwarves been a playable race for all these years

Not trying to insult anyone, but threads like this will result in Bethesda eventually ignoring lore to include or bring back things that don't make sense just to please some fans.

Dwarves randomly disappeared, right? If they come back, I want a damn good explanation that is lore friendly for it.

Because there's been a lack of immersive mining, smithing and stoneworking.

Perhaps the next elder scrolls game they'll bring back the Dwermer into the world like they brought back the dragons. NEW DWERMERKIIN! NOW WITH YOUR FAVORITE DWARF SHOUTS LIKE; "NOT THE BEARD!!" or "Give me your name, horse-master, and I shall give you mine!" and of course, "Nobody tosses a dwarf!".

There's nothing to bring back. The dwemer have been reduced to ash. Evidence shows that they died from hyper-deterioration/hyper-aging...their bodies aged so greately and so rapidly that they instantaneously deteriorated into dust in the middle of ha the weredoing. pies of ash found in chairs, on beds, and right next to clothes and armor. their death was swift and they had no idea it was coming. they wanted eternal life so badly...but got the exact opposite, instead.

Elves in TES games have names that end in -mer

Alt....mer
Bos....mer
Dun...mer
Dwe...mer
Ors...mer

That's right, orcs too

I don't get all goofy on lore debates, but some of the basics really need to be set in stone to have any continuity in the series

reading the books in Morrowind or Oblivion will give a pretty solid primer on the lore...as will the wiki of course

There really isn't any lore friendly reason. The Numidium already can defy time and space, which the entire dwemer race, save for YB, absorbed themselves into the Numidium and became its golden skin.

Or, alternatively they will create a TES game set way in the past, revolving around the discovery of the Heart of Lorkhan and the original story of Nerevar/Vivec/House Dagoth story.

Now there's an idea: TES VI, a prelude to Morrowind. Done properly, that could be ace.

I"m not steeped into lore of the Oblivion world at all.

However I can weigh in on most likely cause of no dwarves being around.

They screwed up not having women dorfs around.

That tends to turn into a population problem, long term.

See, I know that cause in LOTRO (and the lore it is based from) there are no female dwarfs.

WoW dorfs don't count as we all know that is fake nonsense.

I'm guessing the dwarfs in this universe somehow made the same mistake the LOTRO ones did.
Just a lack of wenches to breed with. That's all.

Edit. I just had a thought after I posted this.

This might be a warning shot to all you people into same six marriages. Something to ponder.

Talking bout in game of course.

That may be your opinion but I do not subscribe to it. You fear that this may be what will happen in my opinion, but I see no basis to feel that this fear will come to pass

Who cares? It's their lore, they can do whatever they want to with it.

Too many people around here obsessed with lore.

Dwemer removed themselves from Nirn via heart of Lorkhan. Truth be told, the Dwemer had beards, but they weren't short. Only one was left alive (Visiting the outer realms so to speak) but he is afflicted with Corpus, and he may not be alive following the destruction of Morrowind.

Because there is only a single surviving Dwemer.

And its questionable if he still lives.
Man I forgot about him! I hope he got to Skyrim somehow :P

I want to be a tiny bearded man :sadvaultboy:
(I'm actually looking for a lore reason, I know theres Drawven armors, but i've never seen a Dwarf)
They're not dwarves in that sense! They were bearded, normal-length elves that built various constructs like steam-powered robots.
The reason you can't play as one? All of them (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Yagrum_Bagarn) literally disappeared from Nirn in the First Era. In TES V: Skyrim, that happened ca. 3751 years ago.

I for one am glad that the Dwemer are not the typical Tiny, bearded, battleaxe wielding, scottish accented drunkards they are usually portrayed as, especially fter playing Dragon Age and Warhammer for so long.

If you actually played Warhammer you'd have some respect for the mighty Dwarfs. By far the best interpretation.

I'm also glad that there are no TES Dwemer, because they wouldn't be as well done as existing examples if they were retconned into the stereotype, and if they were implemented as actual Dwemer would add the technological advancements that would blur the setting.

No the whole point is that we don't know what happen to them. That's part of what made morrowind so good, the interpretations... I don't want to know what happened, I certainly want to know the theories but not what actually happened. And I wouldn't be satisfied if they'd just reappeared without explanation, so no Dwemer please (which are bearded tall Babylonian elves and not classic dwarves like absolutely everybody said ^^).

Dwemers are gone :'(
But what if? one of the DLCs to skyrim will add dwemers as a playable race?
Nah,or like there was a small group of dwemer wich survived, but they dont want to tell the rest of us that some survived.
and it add a new island or something...
i dont know, that maybe sounded stupid

Dwemer and Dwarves are different...people need to understand this. They were the size of most mer and men, slim figures (asde from Yagrum Bagarn), long pointed ears and pale and sometimes ash-colored skin. They are nothing like the traditional "Dwarves"

To preserve their mystique. I quite like it and all it implies about history not necessarily ensuring technological linearity.

No, im saying that people need to elize the Dwemer of TES are sometimes called "Dwarves"..but they are not at al the "Dwarves" tat are depicted in titles sch as "Lord of the Rings" Or the Drizzt books. TES's usage of "Dwarf" in reference to Dwemer is more of a derogatory term.

So with that you still felt the need to give info regarding the Dwarves in the Elder Scrolls universe. When it has already been said ample times and barely nothing to do with LOTR or WoW
