Why mages are not broken and why we don't need balance in Sk

And for god sakes, bring back the 'open' line of spells.

Agree 1000% OP.

You won't convince the whiners, however.

They cut their teeth on fairy-dust MMOs. They're used to being led around by the nose, so any effort above and beyond having everything handed to them on a plate is seen as something that is "broken" or "unbalanced".

A friend of mine uses the term "welfare gamers". Sums it up perfectly, IMO.

I honestly don't understand why people say destruction is bad, those runes and saved my life more than once. Level 41 now on my mage and have yet to have any of the "underpowered" problems that many people have been talking about. Just enchanted some apparel, get some buffs and I'm good to go.
People are probably just mad that they can't one shot everything, or just don't know how to play mages.
As I have read from others, things go haywire around/after level 50.

But we can one shot everything, just play with warrior skills and you can one shot all day long.

lmao...what "faster reflexes" makes destro stop doing bad damage and taking an entire magicka bar to kill 1 mob in a room of 5 mobs?

All while a conjuration, illusion, sneak, DW, 2H, or bow focused character can just roflstomp. Without "multi-tasking"

I killed one of those ancient nord boss undead earlier, he had a bow which could one hit me. Destruction is what helped me kill him. 2h, dw and sneak wouldn't help and illusion is basically cheating.

I endorse everything youve said, 100%
totally agree, well said, personally i found my sword and board warrior too easy and after reading casters are more challenging set out to make another character who is now about to reach the same level as my melee char (38) and i have to say my character started out weak and sympathized a little with those who were complaining but the more i played the more i realized that it was the fault of the player and not the game, i played all of the games in the series and i must say if your having trouble its for the most part your own doing, this game gives you infinite chances to prepare for such situations by stocking up on potions or scrolls and the way you build you character as well, seriously there is so much freedom in this game that any trouble you run into is your own doing, they wouldn't release a game they didn't think was "balanced", if a two handed caster spec doesn't work out, guess whose fault that is for making something that derp? you.

if you create a game focused on choices make all of them reasonably desirable or dont waste time on them.

(edit: in an rpg power is a reasonable desire)

Not to mention those choices should never be watered down.

Brains. yeah, it really requires brains to cast summon dremora every 3 minutes from the entrance of a dungeon to the exit.

Yep. Started noticing it around 50, then by 61 it got ridiculous. The biggest problem being that the NPC/enemies destruction spells do scale for some reason. That makes no sense. That they'd level the NPCs, but not ours.

Oh, and the only people Ive been seeing bringing up WOW, whether bashing or supporting it was noobs who have never even played an ES game. Never heard any vets talking about DPS, etc. Its about an inherit flaw with destruction.

You're a [censored] idiot.

That's all I can say to your condescending, baseless post. Please read any of the threads that are lamenting the death of the TES magic system to understand what we're "whining" about.

All this says to me is "Anything I come up with should be equally effective" which is absurd.

You're justifing your whining by using other whiners as examples?

Make sure next time you call someone an idiot, you're looking into a mirror.
Please explain why destro should scale less and be harder than conjuration, bow, 2h, dw, sneak, sword/board, and illusion on Master difficulty.

Go.

I'v actually lost faith in the tes community because of this sing thread realy I need to master every school to play a mage... NO good game makes you do that not dragon age not morrowind, oblivion, not even freakin fable says hay You must use every spell...
Destruction svcks end game... and i get it conjuration is good but only if you use atros or bound weap dont use zombie spell there pathaetic also some one said it and ill say it again mages HAVE TO!!!!! waste limited perks on crap like half cost magicka and EVERY magic skill has it I dont see and other skills that have lazy perks like that 25 50 75 100 half mana(yes im calling it that) cost should just be given at that level and give better perks like I dont know zombies now spread poisonious infecious diseases on contact with enemies how cool would that be? it would be like a cloak for your undead pets like atros have or for detruction you know get 10% mana back when hit by (insert element here) destruction magic. so you can be resistant to frost and it could be a level 80 skill and requires 3 of the previous elemental focusing perks.

Here's another thing. Master Spells.

Without choosing the perk that cuts the cost in half, the Master Fire spell costs 1222 magicka. To use that (without the perk) you would need to be a level 113 with all level up points put towards increasing Magicka.

To use a Daedric Sword, you do not need any perks in anything, nor any enchantments.

oh and they usually get you killed on master, and do less dps/dpm than expert skills - even after the perk and a few enchanted items.

Hey are you level 55 yet?
AE ALTADOON SHARMAT
And that is the end of that.

You know the game is only balanced for 50, right?

AND they take like 15 seconds to cast and if you get hit it stops... forcing you to use a atronach to soack up dmg to just cast the spell....

To those suggesting that Destruction is only broken if used without supporting magic schools, something to consider: currently, it makes more sense for a mage to focus on several magic schools and use archery to deal damage, than it does for that same well-rounded mage to use Destruction to deal damage. In other words, a mage who is using several schools as some people are suggesting is better off using a bow to kill things than using magic to kill things, since bows scale much better than magic. Is that how it should be?

One minor reason that makes destruction magic mostly useless, centers around the base damage, and damage bonuses.

Weapons:
Weapon Damage + Smithing Upgrade + Weapon Enchantment (Fire, Shock, etc.) + Enchanted Armor + Perks

Destruction: Spell Damage + Perks

Also, as someone said, in TES lore, magic was supposed to be more powerful than weapons, unless it is an enchanted weapon. Plus, casting a spell uses magicka, while regularly swinging a weapon costs nothing.

And you can't get a sneak bonus when using magic.

It costs stamina to swing a weapon...
